That sounds like the front reinforcement plate. The bolts might be one time use torque to yield. Toward the middle of the car, just ahead of the transmission there should be a small opening or a screw that holds a door closed, under there is the drain plug for the oil pan. You'll see it in the video I posted above.

You should NOT have to remove an entire shield under the engine to drain the oil.
