We've posted plenty of
F30 spy photos and videos, but this is a first -- a F30 335i with blue front brake calipers. Despite their color, the brakes on this prototype don't appear to be larger or a special design compared to other F30 335i prototypes, so it could be cosmetic only (perhaps as part of a special package). BMW does seem to have an affinity for blue brakes recently, as seen on the F10 M5. Or, these brakes could be for testing purposes only.
Also seen are some testing/recording equipment attached to each fender to monitor the brakes, wheels, and/or tires, as well as sensors on the calipers. The fender sensors appear to be microphones, so they may be for sound testing.
Seen clearly for the first time are the two front-end
side view cameras integrated into the sides of the front bumper. Each side's image will be shown simultaneously on the control display to provide a clear view at cross traffic and blind sideways and intersections. This likely indicates that the F30 3-series will also feature top and rear view parking cameras, all as part of a camera package. Sample of view from side view cameras:
This adds to the F30's already spied technology features, such as the
lane change warning system. This previous spyshot showed that BMW's Lane Change Warning feature will be available for the F30 as well. Sensors at each side of the F30 will continuously check for cars in the left or right hand blindspots. If a car is detected, a small warning triangle in the housings of the exterior mirrors will light up (see photo to the right) and the steering wheel will vibrate. With these types of new technologies, the F30 will surely be the safest 3-series yet.
These photos continue to show off the excellent proportions and stance of the F30 sedan and we get another good look at the squared-off LED angel eyes which will accompany F30s equipped with xenon headlights.
The F30 is expected to be debuted this October/November in connection with pre-2012 olympic events. It will make its world public debut at the 2012 Geneva show in March 2012.
The F30 sedan will go on sale in Europe around the time of Geneva show debut. US sales will begin in late Spring of 2012.
As
this schedule shows, the F30 3-series will come as
328i and
335i models. The 328i will most certainly be powered by the 'N20' turbo 4-cylinder inline engine (as found in the Z4 28i,
details) and the 335i by a turbo 6-cylinder inline motor.
