Don't get too depressed, it is possible to make a turbo engine that appears to be as crisp and direct as NA, just like if you compare the VANOS on the M54 to N54, the N54 shifts timing practically seamlessly, where with the M54 you can actually feel the changes in the torque curve. It just takes some time and R&D.

I am still dreaming about a fully hydraulic valve train in a cam-less engine. Now that would be something.
