Have to decide now on how to get it fixed - basically want the wheel to look 'good as new'. The Wheel Specialist that dan mentioned looks interesting, only hassle is the nearest branch is about 30 miles away so there's the logistics. Alternative is my local dealer - they can provide a courtesy car or drop me back home and will store the car securely overnight if need be, but I wonder - can they make it look like new?
It will not be a complete refirb, they get a contractor to come over and he will make it look good in 2 hours or less, they guarantee it for 1 year, if like me you are not keeping the car get it done that way. If not it needs to go to a refurbishes this will take a week probably.
