My 328i died last friday showing 1/4 tank. Had it towed to the dealership, and they are saying it needs a new in tank fuel pump (covered under extended warranty on the part) AND A WHOLE NEW FUEL TANK at approximately $2k to replace. The tech couldn't give me an exact part that failed, just that the part that failed is on the far side of the tank from the fuel pump, and is not serviceable or replaceable. It looks like there are two fuel level sensors, and the one that failed is not reachable (I'm assuming).

The fact that I have to replace a fuel tank at 65k miles...WTF BMW?!

Has anyone fixed this themselves? I'll swap a used tank in before I pay the dealer $2k...
