If the MT take rate is only 5%, as reported elsewhere I saw recently, then it should not impact CAFE much. The new figures and better 8AT are likely to reduce that 5% even further. I know I am considering AT for the first time.
They could do it to reduce certificatin costs and I could see them eliminating it as an option for the bread & butter 328i and only allowing MT on 335i. They did that on F10 528i.
