I'm not sure. Probably its that my ideal car has conformed with BMW's ideals - yes it is brain washing. Now when I get into an MB, I keep thinking the layout is wrong, the steering is wrong, the pedal feel is wrong etc. Even when I sit in softer, more luxurious seats, I think its wrong because its too soft or too luxurious. When I sit in firmer seats I feel its not right either.

To me, I think its the balance of everything, and the combination of that. When people throw up, "Well car X is better because the acceleration or the fuel economy is...." it doesn't phase me because those cars don't have the balence in features that the BMW has and I would never seriously move away from BMW. A lot of this is intangible.

This is a problem for me however, since it makes it really hard to shop for other brands. For example, even if the ATS is better in every measurable way, under every driving situation, I would be hard pressed to move. Thoughts like, why isn't button Y reachable easily? Why are the bolsters shaped differently? Why is the leather quality like this? Basically I would probably enjoy driving the car, but I would not enjoy being in the car... Right now I enjoy both.
