The price list I saw for the extended warranty did not pro-rate for mileage at the time of transaction. Best to opt for this at either 47 months or 49k miles, whichever comes first. It used to be you couldn't opt in after warranty expiration, now I've heard they will take your money only more of it.
I don't opt for extented maintenance.
I bought the extended for my 02. At 70k they had to replace something that was jamming the gear shift. They had to drop the tranny for that operation. I figured that paid for the extended on the next two cars.
