I'd take a couple mpg less over turbo lag any day! Nobody buys an M3 or M5 because its a fuel efficient car. They buy it for performance. If you want a fuel efficient car to drive everyday, a prius is a lot cheaper.. If you could afford buying the car you should be able to afford the gas.
