My view is if you are planning mods then do them as soon as possible to get the most use/benefit/enjoyment from them. We all keep our cars for a finite length of time so to me, there is no point in putting mods onto a car over a 2 year period only to sell it a year or two later. If you are going to keep it 5-6 years, then fine.
Otherwise buy a car with everything on it from day one, as you say.
