Petrol has its issues for sure. Direct injection (GDI) is responsible for critical particulate matter. Just look at the black carbon rich exhausts of current GDI petrol engines. EU6 RDE requires better exhaust after treatment, including Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPF).
Note... the GPF is coming to petrol BMW models near us. Already listed for some models, to comply with EU6 RDE Step 1.
