I used to do this for every new car as I was told long ago that new engines have small metal shavings and other debris that should be purged early to avoid long-term damage. It's about $100 and I'm willing to pay for this ahead-of-schedule oil change. What do you guys think?

There's much debate on this topic and I'm sure you'll get a variety of reactions.

In short, BMW has every interest to ensure their vehicles are reliable. They have a recommended maintenance schedule which balances cost with reliability. It's doubtful that it will hurt anything to do it early, but I personally don't see the need and don't plan to. I plan to follow the manufacturer's recommendation.
