So yes, since iOS 12.3, I have to manually open CarPlay when I enter in the car. However prior to iOS 12.3, CarPlay would open on iDrive automatically as soon a as it connects.

With ios 13.1.1 in my car it seems to open carplay automatically as long as you were on the carplay screen when you last turned off the car. Maybe try that? |
I've tried that with iOS13.1 and no luck but have not tested since iOS 13.1.1 or now 13.1.2.
Will give it a try today to see if it's fixed.
