Yes, u have 380Nm, but I still have 350Nm plus more power thruout the rev range & also shorter gearing. Not sure abt the diesel motors, but time & again if u put the 28i on the dyno it is vastly underrated in terms of power & torque.
If u talk abt getting the car off the line at the lights then the 328i is easier to spin its wheels cos from idle to around 1500rpm it has more torque than the 320d (check the factory plots for urself, at idle the 28i has 225Nm vs 180Nm of the 320d). The factory claims for manual in-gear acceleration is also quicker @ 5.4s/6.9s vs 5.9s/7.5s (80-120km/h, 4th/5th gear). Don't believe factory? Autobild timed the 320d @ 4.2s & 5.6s for 60-100km/h & 80-120km/h. For the same range they timed the 328i @ 3.3s & 4.2s respectively.
Yes, a high Nm engine is preferred, but BMW does not badge their cars randomly & they don't call it a 28i for nothing.
at what rev range where those timed?? are u a relax driver that likes to pull vs push the traffic or do u like the buzz... As for badging, frankly if i was to care about the badge I would have gotten something with an M in front of it. Though to exaggrerate my point some ppl have argued the M felt lathargic vs. the 335i, and again.. they maybe right or wrong depending on how eachs driving habits
