got flashed twice on smart motorway with HADEC3 Cameras
was travellling along the M1 j39-42 where the new smart motorway with HADECS3 cameras are and got flashed on 2 occasions tonight
First time where there was variable speed limits and second time when there was no variable speed limits. first one im confident with as i was doing less then the limit of 50mph as soon as the flash happened i looked at my speedo and was doin 41mph, so im thinking it may not be for me as there was a few cars around me who probably are all thinking they got flashed. But second one is concerning me as i was doin anything between 90-105 and again got flashed. not as many cars near me so could be for me. do u still get flashed if there is no active speed variable limit enforced? how long does a ticket come through? |

A link to read here.
http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/hadecs-3.htm I believe that the cameras are adjusted during peak times to control variable speeds, then outside of these times set to their normal 70mph plus whatever they trigger at. |

the m1 is now a case of set the cruise to 70 and wait for your exit, it's just not worth it - there's cameras everywhere!

Doing 90-105 anywhere near those cameras is just asking for trouble I'm afraid. I drive length of the M1 frequently and I see the cameras triggering all the time when variable system is off.
Fingers crossed but if you haven't already time to look at an app like Cyclops for your phone. I have it running all time especially on roads like M1 tells you where cameras are what type etc etc then just stick to limits for that section or worst case limit+10%. |

Same with M25 too. I think M4, M40 and M6 are still ok, though I have seen camera vans on the flyovers on the M40 in Bucks a few times.

All cameras, including HADECS and camera van registered locations, are included in the warnings on my RoadAngel Gem+ which updates over the air. Sods Law - the one time I didn't have the unit in the car I got flashed by a HADECS on the M25 about a year ago at around a ton in the early hours of the morning. Luckily no ticket - seems I got lucky.

M6 is now littered with cameras, even more than the M1. Where can we go to race any more? I miss the old days

They get plenty travelling over 90mph on the toll road, also loads of oxygen thieves with no tax, insurance or MoT. M6 toll some times has packs of 6 or more police BMWs. |

Yeah, served is when they send out. If you got caught on the first of the month, and they sent it out on the 14th, then you would still be liable for the ticket.
It's the date on the nip that is important. Doesn't matter if Royal Mail takes 2 weeks to deliver, if the date on paperwork is within 14 days then that's it. |

"The appellant appealed to the Crown Court at Great Grimsby against conviction and sentence. He contended that service of the notice of intended prosecution was defective and did not comply with section 1(c) of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. This requires service to be effected within 14 days. The notice of intended prosecution had been sent to him by first class ordinary post in circumstances where he would ordinarily have been expected to receive it in 14 days, but in fact it was delivered 16 days after the commission of the offence, apparently as a result of delivery delays following a postal strike. The prosecution conceded that the delivery was late." "I appreciate that this construction of the legislation may create problems for the police and prosecuting authorities, particularly when the postal service is on strike with the inevitable delays in delivery. The authorities must then adopt other means of warning, provided by section 1, if they are to avoid the risk of late delivery. Alternatively, the remedy lies in the hands of Parliament by amending section 1(2) of the 1988 Act. It is not, however, for the courts to overcome the resulting inconvenience by distorting the clear language which Parliament has adopted." http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/...2009/2924.html Last edited by AlfaM; 07-22-2016 at 02:20 PM.. |

You'll be fine with the second one. I know from lots and lots of experience on M25 both in Surrey and in Kent and both gantry cameras and Hadecs 3 flashing. NSL is not enforced.
During temporary speed limits, I haven't experimented so can't comment. |

Last year on my way home at 11pm , after doing 14 hour shift at a site in Worksop, doing 100+ on smart section of M62 with very little traffic about I got double flashed by overhead camera. Two lads in front of van with me pissed themselves laughing, very rude I thought. Few weeks spent waiting for action but nothing ever came of it.

As far as I understood it, speed cameras are not active on motorways in the UK when there is the national speed limit in place. I'm surprised they're going off, but people not being prosecuted for them seems to tally.
