Fisker Atlantic as a 3 series rival? (Article)

Just saw this on my facebook.

Fisker Atlantic:

http://www.caradvice.com.au/167164/f...-series-rival/

Quote:
When the Atlantic does enter production—no firm date on that yet, either—it is expected to compete head-on with the likes of the Audi A5 and BMW 3-Series. In terms of size, the coupe-like saloon is comparable to both. And the manufacturer has promised a price in line with what the upper range of the non-M3 3-Series vehicles cost—something in the order of US$45,000—so less than half of what the Karma currently runs.
Not really sure that I would consider this a 3 series rival... Sure it's the same size and cost... but performance? looks?

Well personally I think the Karma is a stunning car (from most angles), and with 100% torque from 1RPM and ~295kw of power, it will give any Non M 3 Series a run for its money!

Cool looking car, but part of buying a BMW is the security of knowing that your dealership and warranty will be there in three years, and that you'll be able to get parts in 10. Incidentally, I drove by a Saab dealership today. A lone 9-5 on the showroom for sale--I'm going to guess cheap.

I agree, I actually love the Karma, and this new car looks interesting. I just don't think it's meant to go up against the 3 series... it just seems like a totally different type of car. Who knows though, it might stack up performance wise.

For any luxury buyer who wants a distinct design that gets good mileage, this is a competitor. That's if they (Fisker) have cash flow to make production. I have my doubts.

The instant torque and low center of gravity on a hybrid or electric is fun to drive.

Fisker will be out of business as soon as the gov't loans and subsidies run out.

If it's economically viable for Fisker and they keep the price at that level then this would be an interesting competitor to the 3 series. From what I've read about Fisker, this is a huge long shot.

I saw a Karma up close and personal a few weeks ago. WOW!
If I was buying a new car, I'd consider the Atlantic. Not much more than a Volt and many others.

Fisker will be our generations Deloren. The only difference is the US taxpayers will get robbed on this one versus Ireland for Deloren.

The only problem is that the Karma increased 30% in price and took years to be produced past its release and initial estimates. I have my doubts about the Atlantic costing $45k and when it will actually show up... they surprisingly have ample private funding lately so I'm sure it will happen the question is when.
