2010 335 convertible or 2012 328 M Sport?

My uncle is trading in his fully loaded 335 convertible this weekend. It is space grey and fully loaded with every option. He paid $65,000 for it 2 years ago and has driven 12,000 miles on it. The dealership is offering him $34,000 for the car. Should I purchase the 335 or wait to order my 328i M sport, paddle shift, comfort pkg with xenons?

This will be my daily driver. I am keeping my modded E46 M3 for the weekend.

This is probably more of a personal decision....would you get more use out of a sedan or a convertible/coupe? E9x's are great cars, but the 335 is not exactly fuel-efficient, whereas the F30 328 is more fuel-efficient and a more practical daily driver. (I'm assuming that you meant 2013 328 M-Sport, since that's the first year that they will be produced).

That said, the E93 with 12K miles on it might hold its value better than the new F30 since your uncle has already taken the majority of the depreciation.

Is your uncle trading in his car for you?

I think the trade in price they gave you is pretty bad, shouldn't it be worth more than that?

If truly fully loaded, it is worth $8k - $10k more.

As to which one to choose: choose the one you want. No one can make this decision for you.

Hmmm.....let's see, a 2yr old 335i convertible with only 12,000 miles for $34,000...decisions decisions.....YUP!
335!
Was this a lease or purchase car?
See if you can get the dealer to CPO it, then you'll have lots of warranty left.

What is your uncle getting to replace the 335i vert?

He purchased the car. It is not a leased vehicle. He is purchasing. New 4runner Limited. Ideally a sedan would work better for me, but I have never owned a convertible before. The car is still under warranty. I shoukd be able to extend it.

I hate to say it, but I'd go with the E93. Space grey is a nice color, and he already took the depreciation hit. You could drive it for a while and still sell it for a minimal loss.

I'm doing an F30 M now, but will most likely get a F33 in 3 years when the lease is up.

I haven't even taken delivery of my F30 yet but like the others have said, I would go with the 335. You'd be getting a great deal and great car. Unless you are one of those people (like myself) that you have to have a car from 0 miles, then go with the F30 but if not, go the other way.

Wow, 2 year is car with 12k miles on it, for almost half price? That's an outstanding deal.

I'd take the E93 in a heartbeat.

335 vert absolutely. There are things certainly better about the F30 328i... Styling of interior/exterior, fuel efficiency, and "newness" factor. However, as others have said, he has already taken the hit on the depreciation for the most part and you're getting a car that you know the PO and how he drives.

PS - Your uncle sounds like he is one of those guys that goes in and does whatever the dealer wants him too. lol

Even if you are one of those people, in my eyes "I bought this from my dad, who bought it with 0 miles" is essentially the same as "I bought this car with 0 miles". The main reason I buy new is so I know the service history, and that it hasn't been abused. My dad is about the least aggressive driver I know, and keeps up on mechanical maintenance, so that satisfies both concerns.

yup, kbb says he should be getting at least 40 on a dealer or 41-42 on a 3rd party sale.

Definitely the convertible, you'd be getting too great of a deal to pass up!

Think about it this way, absolute worst case scenario you need a sedan after 12 mo passes by, and you sell the e93 for $1k more than you got it for..

E93 335i fully loaded with 12K for $34K....that is a DEAL!! So good...not only are you probably break even--out the gate---you may even have a few K of equity in that car!

Not so with 328i....

More power...more vert....more equity.......335i all the way
