Performance Tune

Hello,

I have a 335i Sport Line on order and was wondering if this tune package is something that can be installed post delivery or if it something that has to be part of the original build?

Thanks!

$1200 is a lot but it;s relative. You get a huge boost in torque, it turns a sporty car into a sports car, and you get the piece of mind of having a BMW product in a BMW.
No, it's not that kind of difference.
People have had the performance kit installed on the 135i and E90 335i, and reported noticeable difference. But, it's not like day and night, and certainly doesn't turn the engine into a sports car.
To get that spend the $900 and get an aftermarket ECU tune.
It won't have a warranty, but it will make it day and night different.
The BMW bump is nice, but it's not worth more than $500-$600, and for that you get a modest decent bump but you also retain warranty, and that's not a bad thing. But remember, bug power is made in the aftermarket not by BMW's slight pressure boost.

Yeah I was wondering about the same thing. I'm having a tough time deciding between the 328 and the 335 but now when I heard that a power kit is going to be available I'm leaning towards the 335. I just hope that it can be installed at the dealership so you don't have to pre-order the car with the PPK already on. A 30-40 horsepower increase sounds great.

With the e90's it was both.. A Dealer installed option after, or can be ordered and done at factory. I'm assuming they'll do the same with the F30's. Keep in mind it's not available until December.

Definitely can be installed by the dealer. It is very quick and easy as it is just software that is "uploaded".

As stated in this thread there are other non-BMW products available. Dinan being a reputable alternative. I have tried an aftermarket software tune on another vehicle with great success. But given the price point and relative complexity of the 335i I'm gonna stick with BMW products on this car.

Alright thanks for the answers. I wonder if the performance kit will be enough to compete with the more powerful stock engine of the 335 in the future. (I'm sure that there'll be an upgrade in the next few years I just don't have time to wait for it).

Just make sure the dealership has downloaded and prepared everything. My 1-2 hour job turned into .75 day. Happened that the dude in Germany who releases the codes to the dealership was late, some tech problems, etc.

Good to wait for the official F30 package.

Ummm correct me if Im wrong, but the OP stated that it gives you 335is hp numbers wich amounts to 320hp, $1200 for a 20hp bump is a damn rip off I dont care if its BMW's tune, thats ridiculous.

Talk about a shitty horsepower per dollar ratio...

Ill wait for Cobb....and Ill end it there.

Hp hasn't been confirmed or stated by BMW I think someone on the forum said aliens were coming... Better get your tinfoil hat.

Good luck with your Cobb.. You're right, it will end there... Your warranty that is.

LMAO 'aliens are coming". And yeah your warranty will end if youre dumb enough to take it in with the tune still in it for service. Im not sure why anyone would do that, thats the beauty of accessport you just take it back out....

The PPK is a flash, not a plug in chip. For models that can take the PPK now, there is a stage 2 version that includes a larger cooling fan and auxiliary radiator. I am on my second 135i with the N55 engine. Only the second car has PPK and it is noticeably quicker.

I too am planning to simply get the correct chip in when available. December is not the best time to add power in MA either

Anyone know if option code 8TH Speed Limit Info has to be on teh car in order for the PPK upgrade to work (as the S90 PPK upgrade stated the following: "The BMW Performance Power Kit is only applicable to vehicles equipped with option code 840 (high speed limiter)". Not sure if this is the same thing??? Don't even know what 8TH does??? Thoughts?

Speed limit info uses the exterior cameras (from the Driver Assistance Package in the US) to determine the speed limit of the road you're on, and display it in the instrument cluster. It should have absolutely nothing to do with PPK compatibility.

Just checked the order details for ZWR (M Sport package code for Canada), and it states that ZWR will add 840 to the order... so we're good.

So I went through this with the dealer. To make a long story short they were supposed to order option 840, and forgot to request it.

I was a little peeved, so I had them check, double check, and triple check with BMW Canada. Basically Option 840 adds the summer performance tires (deletes the default all-seasons), and removes the software limit. That's it.

So in the end, I'm guessing that there is not *technical* limitation to installing the PPK, it's basically a BMW recommendation.

If not, I'm going back to the dealer and HULK SMASH!

Ha! Too funny. Sounds like you should be okay. Can't wait for the mod to be avaliable.

Which one would be faster between E92 335i or F30 335i?

It depends wich 335i you're talking about? If its the n54 coupe 335i I would have give the edge to that car. But If youre comparing e90 n55 vs f30 n55, I have to say that the f30 is faster given its slightly lighter and the sport transmission shifts ridiculously quick. So advantage goes to f30 n55 vs e90 n55. IMO only...

Not by much. Manual trans well thats pretty much on the driver and who can shift better/faster..

Another point to consider is that the PPK for the 135i and E90 gave more torque to cars equipped with AT vs MT.
HP improvement was about the same, but torque was higher for the AT.
I don't know if BMW will do the same for the F30, but chances are good.

Another good point. And lets not forget the 335is with its 320hp.

Im very interested to see how much power the PPK will bring, my guess is 30 to be more on par with the s4. I doubt Ill get it, but just want to see.
