F30 M Performance Suspension

I know the "expected" release of the M Performance Suspension is September, but does anyone have any details on this - specifically what's included. Would this simply be a spring change (lowering it by an additional 10mm), or is it a complete suspension overhaul (w/ dampeners + sway bars, etc)???

I have my M Sport on order w/ adaptive M Suspension, and don't want to pay twice. I can't make a decision w/o knowing what the performance suspension includes and how much it will cost (i.e. drop adaptive M as part of my build and wait for the M performance).

I googled this, and have found nothing, but some of you seem to be getting some info from somewhere (i.e. september release, ~$1500, etc).

Anyone???

Subscribed!

I so want to know...I ordered H&R Sport Springs but cancelled it because I found out the M Performance Suspension is coming out this September.

I hope it's not more than $750 - $850...

Take this for what it is ... but another forum goer said it will be approx ~$1500 (no idea where he got the number from) and that it will include more than just "Springs" (will include dapeners, etc) - which I find hard to believe (as this means that the car would have to be wired and reprogrammed, in addition to spring changes). Seems a lot more complicated and costly. Not sure if its easier to go the H&R route.

I think it will come with damper, spring, and sway. Pretty similar to what they do with e82.

That said ... I guess there's nothing stoping someone from simply getting the spring option alone. Might be more expensive than H&R, but at least they will be BMW parts + install = maintain warranty. Guess I should just go w/ the adaptive M option and add on the springs when they are released.

The Performance Suspension for the E90 is ~US$1,500 so it seems reasonable it would be priced similarly for the F30. I seriously doubt that BMW would sell stiffer and shorter springs without dampers to match the higher spring rates and shorter suspension travel. It's not clear what is included based on the description in the catalog (pg. 5 of the PDF below), but it sounds like it will be dampers + springs, etc.

The September release date is listed in the M Performance catalog on p.9 of the PDF.

Thanks ... so far none of the M performance parts have been made available through Canadian dealerships (aside from the performance grill ... "yay" (sarcasm)).

My worry is that it will take months (if not a year to be released). What do you guys think ... the adaptive M is a $500 option ... H&K springs are $300 ... and an install w/ alignment will be another $300-$400. All-in .. probably $1,200 Canadian. If it is a $1,500 USD option, we'll probably get screwed here (more like a $2,000 option). Maybe I'll just stick w/ the adaptive M and get it lowered. Just don't know what will happen to my "warranty".

Does anybody know whether the performance suspension will be in some way adaptive (if you first get the M-adaptive suspension)? So will you be able to select Comfort and Sport mode to change the suspension behavior (as for the "classical" M-adaptive suspension)?

I'm also looking forward for this suspension but I don't want to compromise too much ride comfort, especially when getting 19" wheels. The "classical" M-adaptive in Sport was quite forgiving, though.

Thanks
Kyle

The Exhaust is available today through the dealers.

The suspension should be available here soon. It is more than just springs (I listed the parts in another thread, but I'm too lazy to find it ). The ~$1500 was based on the previous M Performance suspension package.

If you have M Adaptive, my vote is to just stick with it. Since you're replacing the dampers, you'll lose the "adaptive" part of it (IIRC). Lowering with just springs compromises the ride quality way too much (IMHO). Having said that if bottoming-out every once in a while doesn't bother you then go for it.

BMW has not stated whether they will offer a system for car equipped with the M-Adaptive suspenions. If they do, it will probably be spring/bump stop combo, I can't imagine they would make a system that deletes or replaces the EDC system

I really hope thats the case. I need to lower (all my cars were) but I paid for this awesome option I really dont want to lose it. I think I read somewhere that bmw is taking it into consideration to do performance suspension for edc equipped cars.

I can.. Unless they are going to offer a second kit for EDC. Doubt it. Their thinking is probably that if you actually paid for EDC, you would be kinda dumb to want to muck with it.

We'll see, but my sources at BMW (no, not at a dealer - the horses mouth) haven't indicated there will be anything for EDC.

Yesterday I got answer from my local dealer from Munich who said to have spoken with his part supplier from the factory. According to him, there will be a version for the adaptive. So if you have the adaptive and get the Performace, the electronic dampening will remain. What they will actually change (just springs, or more) he couldn't tell, though.

I guess only time will tell. For me, I will order the adaptive. When winter has passed, we will probably know all the details; if needed, I could then upgrade when changing for the summer setup.

My dealer just called me. He said to have spoken with the guys from the M-brand, who say that choosing the adaptive suspension and then the performance suspension does not make sense, as the dampers would definitely also get changed. So in contrast to my previous post, it sadly seems to be that the performance suspension will not remain adaptive. :-(

AddOn: I will nevertheless go with the adaptive. Then wait for you guys to get to know the performance suspension ;-). If it is the super-sporty-and-still-day-to-day-comfortable-suspension we are all dreaming of, I will swap suspensions (and do not matter to have paid for the adaptive beforehand). :-)

If you get Adaptive and then later replace it with M Performance, you'll be able to sell your Adaptive suspension to someone else for a fair bit more than you would have been able to get for the regular stock suspension so that's always good.

I ordered M Adaptive on my car and have never actually been in a car with it so I'm a little anxious to finally drive my car when it arrives.

I would think keeping the adaptive dampers and getting new firmer springs would work nicely.
If the new BMW springs have a firmer rate and are another 10mm shorter, that will give an ideal drop, and the adaptive dampers will continue to do their thing. The springs determine ride height not the dampers.

If the springs are firmer, I may go for a set and use my adaptive dampers.
The adaptive suspension springs are still a bit too light imo.
On twisty roads, in some transitions I can feel the springs need "more spring"/heavier rate.

I guess I could try thicker sways at both ends, but I'd rather get the major parts sorted first and then fine tune with sways.

Anyone have an idea how much just the front and rear springs will cost from the M performance suspension kit?
I think the biggest cost of that kit would be the dampers, which I won't need, as I want to keep the adaptive dampers as they are nice.

Yeah, I could imagine going that way, too. But isn't it necessary that the dampers are adjusted to the spring rate (in order to not stress the dampers more than usual)?
