Oil Pan for 335i is made of metal

As some of you know, the oil pan for the 328i is now made of a composite plastic. I just did an oil change for my 335i and it is metal with a traditional 17mm drain plug bolt.

There must be a reason why the 2 cars are different. Anyone know?

Weight? Testing new materials? Cost savings? Reduces something (friction, temp, noise) You name it.

Garage List
Perhaps because the N55 is a carryover engine whereas the N20 is a new design that can incorporate more recent design advances?
