This is the hardest part. I've had two cars come through Customs and Border Protection this year -- a Volvo and my F30 both of which were delivered in the companies' respective European delivery programs.

The Volvo took 13 days to clear because it was selected for "intensive examination." The BMW took five days.

In the case of the Volvo, I was much more exposed to the process; BMW handles all the paperwork. I tried to accelerate the Volvo by contacting CBP. They were the most unresponsive government agency I have ever encountered. When the BMW ED people tell you not to bother contacting CBP if your car is delayed, they are giving you good advice.

Once your car is off the boat and at the VPC, the only tracking you can get is from the dealer. My idiot salesperson couldn't tell the difference between the estimated delivery date versus the actual dates. Actual dates on their "pipeline" report can vary from the estimated dates if CBP takes its time or the VPC decides to do something to the car or a priority car (like ED cars) comes in with yours.

It's agony, I know. But there's nothing you can do -- and you can't even accurately track it.

The silver lining is that once it's released to the trucker, it will appear at the dealer in 24 hours (in New England) and probably in 48 to the Midwest.

A laughable comment -- CBP could care less that you picked up the car in Europe. If anything, they're more likely to select it for intensive inspection on the theory that you might have stuffed contraband into the fenders. BMW isn't likely to do that with an undelivered car.

My wifes Mini was on Tombarra and I'm 40 miles from the port in NY, car still isn't at the dealer. Either it got damaged or held up in customs, was hoping for delivery by this weekend at the latest...

LAST Tuesday??...I dont see why customs would be holding it this long. Have you contacted your CA?..your car should be at the dealer by now, easily...if not YOU driving it already by now. Contact your CA

Update: I'm picking up my wifes Mini tomorrow. It got off the Tombarra last Thursday and the dealer is about 50 miles from the port.

I would think you're car is pretty close

wow man, I dont know what to say--you need to be on your CA about this--just FYI-my car left Bremerhaven on 9/12 on the Athens Highway-- arrived at port in Brunswick, Ga two days ago, this past Wednesday 9/26, and will be at my dealer TODAY. I'll be taking delivery of it tomorrow a.m

There is no way it should be taking this long.

If the car is still being held in customs, contacting his CA won't accomplish anything. There is nothing a dealership can do to make that go faster.

Also, just be happy your car comes into an east coast port. I'm in Colorado, but my car was shipped to a port in California. I dropped it off in Munich on August 18th, and it just arrived in port two days ago.

Yeah, I'm not understanding why it would be held by customs

I dropped off my 335i ED on September 26th in Munich. I was told by the courier, loginout (weird name), to expect 8-10 weeks for delivery. I'm dying here!

You think that's bad? I dropped September 10th.

It wasn't booked until the 19th. Got to terminal on the 21st. Didn't load until the 25th.

Got into Brunswick on October 15th. And it's still there. Was some bumper damage during shipping that has been repaired on the 26th. BMW ED says that it's cleared customs, but WW ship tracking doesn't show it.

Still waiting on a PCD date, which will add 2 weeks min. Already at 7.

Maddening.

Sorry to hear! I imagine that's very frustrating.

Would you mind sharing how PCD is scheduled? Is it at the last minute, only after your car arrives in Brunswick?

I just put in my BMW order for PCD, scheduled for PW45 (next week). If all goes according to plan my PCD date will likely be around the holidays (either right before or soon after) but I'd love to have a better idea so that I can plan my holiday plans better.

PCD for ED cars is not scheduled until the vehicle clears customs and VPC.

PCD for US cars is scheduled after the order is placed based on production week.

Thanks! I'll have to follow up with my CA if I don't hear from him in the next couple of days...
