For those of us who still don't quite understand the intricacies of coding, what does "removing" and "adding" a CAFD file mean.

Does the removed file represent a control unit or option that is no longer supported? What if your car has one of the now-unsupported devices?

On the other hand, does adding new files mean that there's new hardware that isn't in an older car that is now codeable? Or, maybe that existing hardware now has newly exposed functionality?

I often see people asking here for "missing" CAFD files. Does that mean they have hardware they cannot access for coding until they acquire the file?

Once released, I have no idea why BMW ever removes a CAFD file from subsequent releases, but for some reason, not often, some drop out. The affected modules are still supported, just not at that firmware version. If you have a module that is currently using an orphaned CAFD, you need to either find the CAFD file from an older PSdZData release, or somehow get the car programmed so that module gets it's firmware updated. The latter is better, but is never the easiest.

The added CAFD's are for existing modules with newer firmware, or entirely new modules for new Chassis or Model Year changes.

If you are missing a CAFD, E-Sys [C012] error, you can not code the module.

Anyone know how to reset check engine light on F30?

I redid my coding on HUCIC module to resolve the HD radio issue (don't think it was a real issue - my reception may just be poor since it works for some stations and not others that were working earlier on other side of town).

Anyways after fixing that, I did some coding on KOMBI module (playing with HUD settings) and when I started car next time the check engine/emissions light was on. I drove to work and back and car seems fine.

Ill be restoring the KOMBI settings but don't though if that will reset the light. Anyone have any tips on how to do that?

So got the files an installed E-sys, no prob. However, can't extract the pdszdata files using Winrar. I got a PSDZDATA 47.7 folder with 30 files (about 20.4Gb total). All files have the same size (700Mb) except the last one (658Mb). The files are named as follows:
psdzdata.7z.001
.
.
.
psdzdata.7z.030

So there's no files extension associated with winrar, Win 7 thinks the 3-digit number portion of the files is the file extension. I'm I supposed to rename every single file in a specific way or add an extension to each file so it will work with Winrar?

Any help will be appreciated.

HUD changes

I traded my 2009 M6 for an Active Hybrid (don't ask, but it has to do with spousal approval...).
Really like the car, but I'm disappointed with the HUD in the Active Hybrid. I need it to show RPM's and current gear selection. Any way to do that? I drive the same route every day and listen to the same radio station every day, so my HUD only shows..... speed.... how boring is that!
I also want the auto folding mirrors, but have seen that that is already possibly by re-coding.
Anyone any success with HUD changes? I'd be more than happy to be the guinea pig? I made coding changes to my M6, so, I'm not unfamiliar.

They are compressed using 7-zip. You need that to decompress.

The files are broken up into multiple parts. You may need to join them into a singel file. 7-zip may do that for you, I don't know.

I combined the files manually and used WinRAR to decompress.

That did the trick! I've been a Winrar fan for years and never used 7-Zip before, wasn't familiar with the extension for it. Now I got go to the electronic store and see if I can find the connector and resistor. Then wait for the car. Thanks a lot for the help.

Try this.

Assuming the fault condition no longer exists, to clear the fault code.

1) Launch C:\EDIABAS\Bin\TOOL32.EXE
2) Hit F3
3) Load C:\EDIABAS\Ecu\F01.PRG
4) In the "Select Job: F01" window, select FS_LOESCHEN_FUNKTIONAL
5) Hit F5
6) "Results" window should show "JOB_STATUS = OKAY"

Hopefully, Problem Solved.

Note: fs_lesen_funktional only read fault codes, FS_LOESCHEN_FUNKTIONAL will delete it.

Huge thanks to Telefax for sharing this and providing the files.
I've never created a torrent before, this is my first one, so hopefully it works.
The torrent file can be downloaded from here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ngwhjf

I'm leaving my computer on with it seeding so hopefully we can get the ball rolling for everyone. Let me know how it works. Thanks!

Hi, each and every time when I start the engine of my F30, the climate control starts blowing the air. I tried turning off the climate control before I shut the engine off hopping that car will remember last settings but it did not. Is there a way to make computer remember the last setting other than coding?

Thank you.

E-Sys requires EDIABAS to run, and is packaged with it. As I wrote above in Post 1262, you can launch Tool32, F01.prg, fs_lesen_funktional job to read fault codes, and FS_LOESCHEN_FUNKTIONAL job to clear fault codes.

Thank you very much! I'll try this tomorrow.
Do you have a manual about Tool32 and another .PRG files and jobs?

Sorry, but I don't. There is a general .hlp file available from Tool32, but the .PRG's and their jobs within are not documented that I have ever seen.

Shawn and all,

Could you help this newbie why I couldn't read coding data from my ride?

I'm pretty sure I can find the CAFD file in the psfzdata folder, but it seems my esys program is not reading it
