Take it to another dealership. I will not tolerate dealerships (or anyone) who thinks they know more than I do when I can show my evidence.

Life's too short to be unhappy with your $50,000 car.

PS: I'm in SoCal, too, so send me a message if you want advice on which dealerships are good down here

Garage List
Tried it on a 2012 320d and didn't like it. However on my 2013 320i I hardly notice it. Don't know it is more noticeably on diesel engines or if they have improved the system on newer cars?

Life's been good with the ASS off on startup. As long as I don't put it into EcoMode. I noticed comfort mode gives me good enough gas mileage anyways.

Picking up my car tomorrow, didn't mind it on the test drive so I'll leave it on. If I hate it I can always take it back but from what my sales advisor said they only do it once for you for free so I'll see how it goes.

It isn't about whether or not we use ASS, but having the preference saved when we turn the car off. It's not like we're disabling it. However, a lot of my driving is in Manhattan, aka traffic jam central. I'd hate to have to remember to turn off ASS each time.

Ahh yes, I do agree there should be an option.
While I don't mind having it on, I do agree people should be able to choose whether it's on or not by default.

ˆˆˆThis is "Last User Mode" and exactly what the recoding gets you, like with all M3s.

Why wouldn't someone want the option???

Just picked up my 335i. Not nearly as jarring as I thought it would be. Some instances I didn't even notice. The car never shook, and the engine was ready by the time my foot moved from the brake to the gas pedal. Stuck in traffic in Stuttgart yesterday, I was at a standstill for minutes at a time. Great knowing I wasn't sucking up gas while stuck for 45 minutes.

The BMW rep at BMW Welt told me that if you're at a stop and won't want the ASS to kick in, you can pump the brake pedal after stopping once, and that will disable it for that stop. So you don't actually need to hit the button when you come to a stop but can clearly see you'll be moving again in a few seconds. I've used this a couple of times, though I may not be exactly clear on the procedure.

I'm in two minds about it. While I appreciate the possible fuel saving it is starting to annoy. I'm driving an F31 320d loan car until mine is delivered in February and I wonder if the preference saving option is available through UK dealers.

At the moment I'm occasionally trying to drive around it which does seem to defeat the object. For instance if I'm really light on the foot brake at a junction it doesn't kick in, a little extra pressure and it does. And I do wonder about wear and tear, for the sort of town driving I do the constant stop/start can't be good.

Whats funny is that I didn't know about the feature until I took the
Car home and my initial thought when it turned off at the light was "uh oh, what did I do"

Quite funny actually and while the feature is cool, it's also really annoying and feels like it's bad on the engine since its so rough

The sales rep I'm dealing with said they program it so that the default is "OFF" but it can still be enabled in the car. However, every time you turn off the car it will go back to "OFF". This is a little different than what most people seem to be saying (as above). Are there different ways they are programming it or is my sales rep full of it??

Works well on 335--don't even notice it after using it for two weeks.

Two days of ownership....it kinda sucks.

Giving it a full two weeks before I give up though.

On the 6 speed manual, ASS never kicks in unless you take it out of gear when you stop. So I hardly ever experience it at all.

Little trick my CA showed me: if you move the steering wheel at all the engine will start back up.

I think in my case it's more annoying on a diesel. Starting a 4 cylinder diesel every few minutes isn't quite the same experience as a 6 cylinder petrol. I'll see how I go when I get the 330d.

And it appears the coding option isn't available for UK owners through UK dealers
