Trunk latch issue? Do you have to SLAM your trunk shut?
I'd like to learn from the folks here whether you've found it necessary to really give your trunk a hard slam for it latch shut?
I've often found that upon swinging the lid shut with even moderately firm amount of force, it doesn't latch and just starts lifting again. I've had to slam it pretty hard for it to latch and stay shut. Is this normal for other F30 owners out there? I'd like to get a sense of whether this is something I should take it to have looked at. Thanks! |

Do you have any obstructions in the way of the latch? Check the bottom side and the trunk side latch for debris or damage?
Normally a moderate shove to close does it. I find if you are too gentle it won't close at least for me. Good luck. |

Same here. My wife, being somewhat height challenged, has some trouble getting it closed. We were starting to wonder if there was a problem with the latch.

Yes I have noticed that it needs a good slam to close. Definitely needs more force than my old E90 did, although that's expected since the F30 uses a hinged design vs. the struts in the E90.

I think it's normal, yes. I genuinely noticed it needed a little more strength to close than my previous car and i'm still getting used to it. Does seem you need to 'slam' it more than you think. I use the indents on the inside of the boot lid to close it - i imagine it's easier to put your hand on top of the lid if you struggle.

So, so far we've determined we need to slam the trunk and slam the hood (another thread) to get them to close. Eh - at least the doors seem to close without slamming them.

Mine did the same. The force required ended up destroying the backligt housing, which became loose in one corner. I left the car at the dealers for 2 days, and got it back with new housing, and they had also adjusted the trunk so it now shuts with almost no force at all.

Good to know that you had success in getting the latch adjusted. I'll probably ask the dealer to take a look at it when I take it in later for other service. |

Doors take little effort to close and are pretty solid. Trunk needs to be firm but not overly. I think my F30 trunk takes a little more effort than my old E90's did, though. All in all, the car sounds solid when closing doors/trunk. Not like a tin can.

![]() But in all seriousness mine requires minimal effort to close it, not sure as the f10 boot lid could be heavier thats why we nvr notice |
