Heated Side Mirrors?
OK So I'm not sure if I missed this or what?
Wasn't this an option on the F30? I thought it was standard on the 335i's? It gets extremely annoying if you park outside one day and have ice all over your side mirrors. Cant believe I dont have this option; I thought it was standard! ![]()

I believe for the 335i it's standard. They heat up automatically when the engine is on, or so I presume because I haven't had any ice accumulation on mine.
EDIT: Manual, p53. "Both exterior mirrors are automatically heated whenever the engine is running." Last edited by Raspartan; 01-14-2013 at 08:13 PM. |

My wife has a 2012 328i Sport line. Once in a while the side mirrors would fog up when going into the parkade (cold to warm). We asked the dealer to check on it but they claimed everything was fine. My 1M never had this problem. With my 1M you can feel the warmth when you touch the mirror, not in the case of the 328i. The dealer confirms the mirrors are automatically heated up once the engine is running (no need to press the defrost button), but claims it takes 15 minutes to warm up, I think that's BS
![]() We owned many BMWs since 1997, never had this issue until this F30. Anyone else has this issue? Last edited by Luca335; 02-22-2013 at 05:52 AM. |

I think it's rather unlikely that heated side mirrors are required by law, but from the responses they do seem to be standard on Canadian F30s.
To address the original point however, in all of the weather we have had so far this season my mirrors have yet to accumulate anything while the engine is running. |

I think I figured it out but need confirmation from other owners. When you put the car in ECO Mode, the exterior mirrors are not heated as much as when you are driving in normal COMFORT Mode. This is my observation testing with the two modes. I guess it make sense because in ECO mode the system is trying to cut back electrical use to save gas.

I think it's rare that the salespeople would ever have the depth of knowledge that an enthusiast on this forum would. I wish it wasn't the case, but exceptionally knowledgeable showroom staff seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

While this may be true, I haven't had an issue with mirrors fogging this winter and I'm always driving in ECO mode (mainly because I don't want to put a strain on the engine when it's this cold out). I switch to Comfort/Sport as soon as the engine reaches the right temperature.
