Moving up to f30 US spec debut 320i from e90 325i

I was really excited to hear BMW is bringing over the 320i over the states.

My question is will this car be considered a good upgrade if I decide not to get the 328i? Also, will it be comparable power wise??

I know the newer version will have around 180hp versus my current car's 215hp. I don't track my car & thought the acceleration is comparable when looking at the specs.

TIA

The car will have stronger low & mid-range acceleration due to the extra torque over a wider rev range, as well as having 2 extra gears (meaning gears being stacked closer).
If u don't track the car & u have no qualms abt the engine being rather quiet (some ppl cannot accept anything but the straight 6 sound) then it's a good replacement, & it'll be a good upgrade over the E90 cos the F30 is smoother riding plus it has a more spacious interior.

It will be slower than your current E90...I would stretch for the 328.

Doubtful, they maybe close on the 0-60 times though. This will actually be faster around town and lower speeds with the low end torue.

Thanks...when looking at the specs, the new 320i had a 0-60 time of 7.1 secs w/ either transmission. My old car with an auto is 7.2 according to the old specs.

I think it would be a great move. Definitely go test drive an F30. You might just fall in love with it.

Part of me thinks that in 1-2 years, they'll put the B38 3cyl into the 320i, and it could be the best bang-for-the buck with a tune/mods. You'll have a VERY lightweight engine that is set way back in the engine bay. If they could get that thing up to 225HP with a free-flowing exhaust, it would be pretty fun to whip around a track.

The N20 is already lightweight & set way back in the engine bay.

Well of course. But lighter and even further back is just more of a good thing

N20 in the 320i will be more bang for the buck esp. with a tune, the 3cyl is just 75% of the n20 but it will sound very different (better)

0-60 is hardly a complete measure of what you'll feel in day to day performance. There's already been a thread where someone thought a 2013 328i would be of similar performance to an older 335i for the same reason, but it turned out not to be.

honestly the 320i is a pretty good deal. You get the ZF8 speed auto, the N20 engine, the 3 series body and that interior all for under $40k. You are sacrificing some power but remember the N20 figures are under rated so the car will developed a bit more power than what is stated. Plus you can tune that engine for under $1000 to deliver 328i figures easily. This is probably the best bang for buck in the whole Luxury Sports Sedan line up. Remember this thing still comes with the 4 year free maintenance.

Yeah.. giving up on the inline 6 may not be easy for me. But we'll see...

And better mpg.

I have driven cars with the N52 several times. Never understood the fascination with them. Unless you're 5000rpm+, it's pretty anemic.

I drove a 320i here in Canada and they are gutless. Sad to see BMW diluting the brand so much.

I wouldn't do it. The e90 325i is a pretty fun car with a great sounding motor.

The 320i to me would be clinical. I don't like the 328i loaner I had at ALL.

So u mean they've been diluting the brand since 1955, when they first made the Isetta?
