I meant for track purposes. Handling will shine, but there comes a point where more power will overcome a slight handling advantage. |

See, I had an N55 for 3 days. I liked how in a straight line you could goose the pedal and feel the extra surge. But I also took it on back roads and pushed to 5-6/10ths(not like a track where it's 8-9/10ths) and felt it less tossable, less willing to change direction, less neutral. Was it huge? No, but neither is about 30whp between the two(265-270 actual crank vs 315-320hp) And, adding gobs of power to the 335 can exacerbate the weight/handling issue. To me, I found it awesome that my $300 tune gave me the surge I liked in the 335 but I still have the lightness in handling and direction change of the 328. That $300 was easier to me then taking the 150lbs out of the 335. NOW, on the other hand. If I wanted more of a straight line monster, a 500hp/500ftlbs tq rocket sedan, I would walk right past the 328 for a 335. The 335 has the displacement to easily push those kinds of numbers. The 328 I will say will cap out at 320whp ish before bigger turbos and likely pistons will come into play.

I've put 5k miles on my 328 in the 3 months that I've owned it, and have averaged 34-37mpg for a great deal of that. I also paid about $41k for it - comparably equipped 335 would've been around $46k, and I'd have seen closer to 30mpg.
Would I drive a 335 over a 328 if they were competitively priced, and deal with a couple mpg in real-world driving? Sure, but I drive my car every day, and will probably put 15-20k on per year. 328 made more sense. It's certainly not as fast as a 335, but I rarely 'get on it' and never drive more than 75mph, so what's the point? I haven't seen such a toxic group of people outside of a harley forum, arguing over dynas vs softtails. They're all great cars, no need to try to hurt someones feelings simply because of a decision they made. Don't live up to the BMW stereotypes, guys! |

How is it any different than your justifications for your purchase?
The thing that annoys, we each can justify till we are blue in the face. The difference is, 335 owners seem to feel the need to come into 328 exhaust threads or 328 tuning threads and throw around their crap as no one with a 328 should modify their car and just too poor to have bought a 335. It gets really annoying. You think we are defensive and compensating, but what does it say about the guys who feel the need to crash our parties to talk about their cars being better still?

Whatever makes you happy
We can race your G37 when you run it on summer tires when it's sleeting out against my car on snows

From reading the last 3 pages here's what I've observed:
328 people reply to OP saying yes, 335 will beat 328 in a line race, no two ways about it. However, we are quite satisfied with our 328s, and don't feel regret at not going for a 335. 335 owners come in and feel the need to then look down on 328 owners, and anything we have to say in praise of the 328 becomes "a defensive justification of our erroneous choice". I don't think any 328 owner here said, "wow, I really really REALLY like the 335, and think it beats the 328 by leaps and bounds, but I'm just too damned broke or cheap to fork over that extra 5-6k, so I'll have to settle for a 328". We all did our research (hopefully), test drove the cars, and made our decisions based on various factors, not just "what's the hp and what's the 0-60". If the only way you 335 drivers will feel better about yourselves is by constantly bashing and harassing 328 drivers, go ahead, you're not gonna make me regret my decision in any way. Just be prepared to eat your own words when some M3 drivers come in here and give you a taste of it. |

Odd. I got a 328 because it gets much better gas mileage and had an extremely good reliability rating and owner satisfaction rating from Consumer Reports. The 335, not so much.
Even with no price differential, I'd get the 328. I'm not going to the track, nor drag racing Corvettes. |

How come all the magazine tests with the F30, the N20 328 is judged the winner, yet most if not all of the head to heads with the F30 335 has picked other cars as being superior? Those tests are said to be impartial. It implies the F30 328 does a very good job representing itself and comparatively among the class. So where does the 30-35whp seem to get you that enables such elitism and trash talking? Reminds me of high school...seriously. I did wresting, track AND marching band. Football players would trash talk the "band geeks". Except for the fact that we had a competition traveling team ranked the best in the northeast and they lost almost every game that same season. So yeah, they would talk trash, then you would bring up their record and point to the bands big trophies in the case. That and they were showering up with a bunch of dudes and we did co-ed dressings in the back of the bus. How bout that for an analogy lol.

To all 335 owners. Its ONLY A 335. Get over it. The 328i has come closer to the 335. Yes its faster but i would argue me driving is faster than you driving.
Again. You guys own 335i's. we are not talking m3 here. |

People tend to forget that we are all very strong individuals here who cannot be bullied into submission. 328i is very capable car and you can option it all the way to the $50s.

LOL.
My tune is paid for and takes 30 seconds to remove-you need to supercharge your car to play? Call me when you get yours supercharged though. I have a supercharged BMW that would enjoy the company
