Stupid question, but could the stage 2 tune be damaged from using only 91 octane? Although, yes you would probably get a handful of power out of it and running +4psi instead of 3psi (0ver stock).

Interesting.
So the only way stage 2 can get the added power is by running a higher octane fuel.
I understand why higher octane will allow a higher boost level and perhaps more timing, but is this suggesting that the N20 has reached a limit with stage 1 and regular pump gas?
IOW, there are no more gains to be had from the stock engine using up to 93 octane fuel?

Also, is stage 1 tuned to take advantage of 93 for the areas that have 93?
Or, is stage 1 tuned for 91 to cover the whole US as that is the highest some people can get?

What about a 100 octane tune or option for those who don't want to run E85 and get less MPG?

I realize it's a piggy back so not much tuneability for different octane fuel.
But, it sure would be nice to have optional piggy's like one for 91, for 93, and for 100, and then the E85.
That way people can choose which one based on the fuel they can get.

I had a JB+ in my 135i and it had an adjustment for higher boost. I'm guessing that adjustment also allowed for higher octane fuel by turning the setting to maximum.
Does the tune for N20 and N55 have the same adjustment?

I have stage 1 and I noticed there is a huge difference between running 91 octane VS. Running a Mixture of 100 octane and 91..

I don't have access to E85, and the only place around me that has a higher octane is Pasadena 76, which has 100 octane but it costs roughly $9 bux a gallon..

Usually I just fill up only like half a tank of the 100 octane, and man, it is CRAZY how much faster, and stronger a difference you can feel! Huge difference in power. It kind of sucks it is so much more money, but it is so much more fun when you put the racing fuel in.

I got to sack up and fill the whole thing up with 100 octane only. I think I will try topping it off tomorrow after I get stage 2 installed and have some fun

As far as I understand it, yes. Should be able to get better (lower obviously)
0-60mph/0-100kmh figures than 91AKI.

In fact, those who use 93AKI/98RON can up the turbo boost in Stage 1 from 3psi default to 4psi, using the special USB cable.

This should enhance performance a little more.

I'm using 98RON (pure - without Ethanol) and default 3psi boost and performance is terrific. The car accelerates very hard when prompted.

I never have used E85, & I have only pumped 100 octane, but for whatever reason, when I put 100 octane in, my CEL comes on.

I did a couple of tests and didn't run the racing fuel for awhile, and only pumped 91, and eventually the light would turn off on its own.

Then I would pump 100 again, and boom, back on.

Not sure why the 100 octane makes my light come on, but it definitely does.

Cool. Thanks for the info.
I forgot that with the cable there is some adjustment.

With the JB+ in my 135i the small piggy unit had an internal pot that could be adjusted, rotating right more boost, left less boost.
I had mine set to almost maximum. The difference between stock and the JB+ was VERY noticeable, no mistaking a very good bump in power.

I ran 93 US as it's everywhere in my area.
I ran half a tank of 105 octane and didn't notice much of an increase, but the power output felt a bit smoother and more linear.
Even though the tune wasn't designed to give more boost or power with 100 octane, having the added anti-knock headroom allows the engine to truly maximize the boost it has, meaning, there were likely less knock events during operation giving a better linear max boost.
When I ran the 100 I ran the tank to near empty, likely less than a gallon of 93, then I filled up with around 8 gallons of 105.
Cool to test but too costly to run everyday.
It wan't too pricey though. I think I paid like $6.30 per gallon when 93 was selling for around $4.30 or so.

I don't have the piggy for my 335i, but I am seriously considering it.
The power and acceleration from the N55 stock is still very healthy.
I must have got a good one cause it feels a bit stronger than my 135i which had the N54.

They had a dyno run with a race gas on stage 1, there is a file for it, I think it did 290whp with stock hardware.

And the stage 1, as explained allows adjustment of 3-4psi depending on if you are running 93 or not.

Stage 2 they say will have small gains if hardware is unchanged and running 93, maybe 10whp more.

That's there for the stage2. If you have an automatic, they can hook you up now and are even offering install if you are local to Cali. It's supposed to only be for those who already have stage 1, but if you email them they might be able to make an exception if your are local.

Yep, that too. But it seems like all n26s have it and now all n20s with later build dates have it too.

No, stage 2 is added to stage 1. Reach out to Terry via email and keep up on N54tech, he will walk you through getting hooked up. Lucky bugger.

He was even willing to Try out stage 2 by working on my car for a day if I was local, or you know...closer than 3,000 miles away lol.

Terry replied with the reason, I think he said wiring is longer with the manual.

As Jameson stated above, they will do manuals but the CAN wires are harder to reach so they are starting with autos. Not a transmission issue at all.

N26 & newer N20 have electronic boost solenoids, rather than the controllable pneumatic boost solenoids. So for now, no dice for me (unless I am misunderstanding something!).

Being an n26 owner, my fingers are crossed the final release will support the electronic boost solenoid cars.

Lol, I got it backwards, I thought they wanted electronic solenoids first but reread and saw pneumatic.
