In all seriousness, I think that those who have opted (or will opt) for the PPK have a very different mindset than those who have chosen (or will choose) the JB when it comes to tuning.

I wanted a fairly generous helping of additional power for one of my daily drivers. I wanted a "set it and forget it" tune. I wanted to not have to worry about my warranty at all. The PPK ticked all of those "want" boxes for me

The JB is a great tune. The PPK is also a great tune. It's nice to have options that will suit the "wants" of various drivers. The only track my car will ever see features turns. If I wanted to be the king of the drag strip and epic burnouts in the Dairy Queen parking lot, I would have leased a Camaro ZL1 for roughly the same price I am paying now.

Could be. It wouldn't have been too difficult to articulate that.

It's all personal preference but for what it is, I find the ZL1 extremely impressive. It would certainly abuse an F30 335i around the track all day.

The cons with the ZL1 are: lackluster interior; poor visibility.

My personal opinion on the ZL1:

Pros:
Engine
Magnetic suspension
Exterior Styling

Cons:
Interior
Exterior size, the car is too big dimension wise in my opinion.

I have driven a new Camaro. The driving position, visibility is a down right deal breaker. You never get a sense for where the car is around you and what's around the car. I put about 500 miles on one back in '10.

It definitely feels like a big car when you're inside the cockpit. Can't argue with that.

The ZL1 or the SS?

I test drove the SS for fun and left the drive with the same impression you just expressed regarding the visibility and "feel" of the car.

Surprisingly, the CTS-V offered a similar feeling. The acceleration was undoubtedly brutal but the car didn't feel as fast as it should because its hefty weight dulled a bit of that visceral sensation of speed I was yearning for when considering the V.

I imagine the raw power of the ZL1 would make one focus less on the visibility and size concerns.

After one hot lap the ZL1 fades fast. It Heat soaks like crazy on both the engine and diff.

That's a shame. Are you speaking from personal experience or based off of research that you have come across?

The reason I ask is because I saw a video review/comparison the other day that pitted the ZL1 against the Shelby GT500. In another video the ZL1 faced off with the Boss 302. In each comparison, the ZL1 came out on top.

I think it was the GT500 (rather than the 302) that ultimately lost because it was done after one lap. The brakes were toast and the car was running hot (causing it to lose power, etc.).

The driver (an actual race car driver and not a car magazine writer/blogger) complimented the ZL1 for its ability to continue to run strong for the entirety of its testing session. It's only one review/data point but it led me to believe that the ZL1 actually was a legitimate track car.

I have a lot of experience with PD Blowers and the LSA engine. Also I have not drove a ZL1 on the track but was at a HPDE with a couple of ZL1 drivers and CTS-Vs. They handle great on the track but they are not track cars. The weight of the cars put a ton of stress on driveline and power train components. It's no secret either it's pretty common if you frequent Camaro5 boards. They do offer a lot of upgrades for cooling but heatsoak is never going to go away. Suspension wise the ZL1 is track ready. To prove my point look at Camaro 1LE times vs ZL1 very close. PD Blowers are not ideal for road tracks.

The Boss 302 is a real track car and the only thing holding it back is the solid rear axle. The GT500 is a muscle car nothing more. In a straight line it eats the ZL1 in the corners it's the opposite.

But I don't judge a car based on peak lap times alone. That's why the M3 and Cayman are two of my favorite.

I think he was waiting for the light so he could torque brake it without it pulling throttle.

It was test and tune. Not racing just testing. But I still got him.

My experience exactly with the CTS-V. One of 2 main reasons why I ended up with the C63.

The C63 is a beast way better car on the track then CTS-V and ZL1. No heatsoak or overheating diff.

It doesn't have the horsepower of the N54 so the mph will be less. But it's a more efficient platform hence why they have better acceleration numbers with less power.
