BIRD CRAP

Well spent the day at the coast, came home and found Bird crap on the bonnet.
Used a foam bird lime remover, washed it off and way and behold it's pitted the clear coat.
This F**king BMW paint is pure shite.

I have applied armorall paint shield to the wifes car and the bird crap just falls off.
I will be applying it to my new M5 in the first week it arrives.

Is the paint really that bad? Was the paint waxed in anyway prior to the bird crap?

The paint sure is crap. I had bird poo on mine, must have been 4hrs max. Tried cleaning it off, but has marked the clear coat.
My car was waxed as well.

That's doesn't sound good! Not sure there's an avoidance technique for this then either if the cars were well protected prior?

I am getting a new M5 in 6 weeks or so and will try and apply a "sealant" over the polish, and see if that helps.

Do you live by a nuclear power plant? That's really intense to have caused so much damage in such a short period.

Upload some pics, lets see how bad it is.

Just tried to film it but it's blurred , it looks like dried rain drops about 1/8"+ droplets about 8 of them.
It's not obvious but you can see it if your looking for it.

I can agree that BMW paint is rubbish with bird crap, even a few minutes is enough to damage the paint if its acidic enough bird shit.

Garage List
I had the same thing happen to my car over the weekend. What looked like an undigested slug dropped from height. There is a definite blemish in the clear coat now

I'm tempted to get a proper sealant put on now but will need to look into the options. Any recommendations?

I would honestly take it to the dealer... Small chance they might fix it.

Any chance it was the lime remover rather than the bird crap. I tend to start with gentle sponging with warm water which often does the trick. Try chemical cleaners first on inside of boot lid or similar before anywhere important.

I had two coats of synthetic sealant on and a coat of carnuba on top of that, got bird turd on the roof on Friday, only there for 10 mins, still eaten clear coat and looks marked now. Will machine it out at some point

I've posted this on a detailing forum that I'm on to see if they can recommend a preventative measure. I'm thinking sealant then wax should do the trick though, but according to the replies perhaps not?

Massive dollop on the roof. My first on this car. Got it off very gently but it seems to have stained the paintwork. So I Autoglym Paint Renovator it, then apply some Nano Sealant 2 from Euro Chem. Viola, gone!. Took me ages, bloody ages. BMW paint is CRAP.

Oh crap! Literally. Think the birds have been out today. My cars taken 2 hits on the bonnet... I waxed it last week using R22 but that shit must be very acidic... Look at an angle it looks like the lacquer has been taken off...

I agree. The paint covering is pretty crap.
I have a ceramic coating on my motor. After a bit bird shit, it's cleaned off, but still leaves a bit of a dull area. Once totally cleaned you can't notice it though.
Got me paranoid that i have to wash the whole motor after a bit bird crap though. You can certainly notice it if i don't. Lol.

I have worked a few months at a BMW prep-Center till yesterday where all the new cars delivered to and stored and almost every single one had etched stain on them. I can honestly recommend to try heat gun first which is the usual routine to remove them and it really works, just place above the stain for a few seconds and you'll be amazed as it will disappear. I've done it every day and since I know this method I really don't stress about my car. But don't use on the bumpers(plastic). Might sounds a bit unusual but works without attacking the clear coat with some compound!

Looks like there really is no way around this. This is a quote from a detailing guru:-

"Bird lime is incredibly corrosive. It'll eat through wax, sealant and paint given the opportunity. The key is to remove it the instant you find it. If its etched the paint then it will need compounding to remove the damage.
The other mistake that most people make is rubbing it to get it off. Bird lime will contain tiny piece of grit, so when you rub it against the paint it'll mark like hell. I always flood the area with glass cleaner or quick Detailer, allow it to soften for a minute or two and then very gently wipe it away with a soft cloth. If it doesn't come off cleanly, soak it again. It's worth being patient with."

Would a "Hair Drier " do the same job and how long do you leave the heat on it please?. thanks.

I've always used heat gun but a powerful hair dryer might works on the same principle, with the heat gun just place above the stain about 2inch away for a few seconds as the clear coat warms up it will just disappear
