How comfort/quite is ur ride?

Hello brothers,

There has been a lot of talks about wind and road noise on the F30. I test drove 320i GT auto on a 19" tyres and the ride was awful. Road noise was so noticeable and ugly.

I am about to put an order for 320i Saloon (I test drove the GT because they didn't have saloon 320i to test drive!).

Can you please share your experience regarding wind and/or road noise? what are ur settings? what tyre size do you have? have u got any suspension like Adaptive or M sport suspension?

What is ur advice to get the best comfort and quit cabin on F30?

Thank you for your answers.

There seems to be a wide variation of noise reported based on the make of tyre fitted. I have 18" Pirellis on Adaptive and they are very quiet.

Thank you for your reply brother.
Can you please elaborate more on the adaptive suspension part. Can you clearly tell the difference in ride comfort and cabin quietness on car with Adaptive and a car on normal suspension? do you drive regularly on motorways? when you go 70 mph how quite the cabin is?

I was referring to comfort mode between 70-90 mph.

however, I have been surprised how compliant and progressive the ride has been in Sport mode. The two worst cars I ever had for ride quality was a 2004 E60 on first generation run flats and a 2008 Audi A4. Sport mode is waaaaaay better than both of those.

i have a 320i sport
came with 17" alloys and continental tyres..... ride was dire!
like rolling on lumps of rubber coated concrete.

i then bought a set of 19" 403M's that had bridgestone S001's on it, with the intention of ditching them for standard tyres like i did with my previous car an E90.
but felt it wasn't needed, the ride quality of the 19" S001's is better than the 17" continentals imo.

as for comfort, if you came from an E90 the ride is much softer in the F30.
and wouldn't want it any softer.
as for tyre road noise best option for that imo is standard non runflat tyres. or bridgestone S001's if your not comfortable with not having runflats.

That's not very good news brother.
So you are saying that the run flat tyres generate more noise than normal ones? also if you get rid of run flat tyres then you are losing a very important feature: please have a look at this video

What is ur opinion on the Adaptive M Suspension? have u tried it once? does it improve the quality of the ride?

I just sold the F31 330D M Sport with 19" wheels, no such noises, car was great
No wind noise either.

I went once in a tourer and I think there is a massive difference between tourer and other body shapes (Saloon, GT), I don't know why the tourer is "more refined". However I am after a saloon and you should expect a comfort and quite ride on such expensive car

Mine are 19 inch 403s with the standard fit RFTs, which I think are Bridgestone Potenzas. Adaptive M Sport suspension.

Ride is excellent. I have the suspension in the Sport setting most of the time and I find it gives a good ride on most surfaces. When the surface deteriorates I switch to comfort mode, which does a noticeably better job at absorbing harsh bumps.

Tyre noise is ok most of the time but completely depends on the road surface. Sometimes it's very quiet, sometimes quite loud.

I've got 18" and adapative with a tourer and its lovely and quiet. I test drove a tourer with 18" and non-adaptive and that seemed quiet too (although that was 2-3 months ago)

Can't honestly say if there is a difference in road noise between sport setting and comfort but you do "feel" the bumps more in sport as the shocks have stiffened up.

You really need to get them to lend you one on 18" to reasssure yourself

I think the wind noise issue was because of a problem with window seals on early production models, my 63 plate 330d is very quiet.
As for tyre noise I have the M Sport with none adaptive suspension and staggered tyre set up, it's decently refined on most surfaces and the ride is surprisingly good. I also had a 24hr demo in an M Sport with 19's, bit more thump over potholes but no appreciable increase in tyre roar.

Definate increase in road noise on my F30 in comparison to my E92 although the ride is much smoother. Running 19" S001's currently - previous E92 was non-rfts's so maybe that.

Trouble is it is subjective. I've driven a 320d Gt on 19s and a 320i saloon on rubber bands this past week both seemed quiet to me compared to my c250d on 18"
