Possibly Purchasing a demonstrator - What to look for?
Hello All,
I'm interested in purchasing a F30 - 2016 330i that is a demonstrator model, currently I have had a look at it, but looking to test drive it next week. Is there anything I should be looking for or ask about in the demonstrator vehicle before purchasing? Less than 3000 KM Driven. |

Just be aware that the warranty commences from the date the vehicle is first registered.
Try to push for 5 year free servicing....one less thing to worry about. |

Have a look at this youtube video. Might put you off buying demonstrators.

Just be aware that demos have been constantly cold started and thrashed. 3000km as a demo is probably equivalent to 40,000km of private owner driving engine wear. That's fine but the price just needs to reflect that.

Not sure how bad it is. But i will admit every car i have demoed and every loaner car i have receieved when my car was in service (im sure the loaners make there way to ex demo sale vehicles) i have thrashed the crap out of it.
Whats the saying, drive it like u stole it. I know when i had my 2013 x5 in for service they gave me an x1 with the 185kw n20 engine. I drove it that hard i got it air born through a dip. Loved it so much i traded the x5 for the 328i |

One thing - may not be relevant for you, is that insurance "new for old" often doesn't apply to demonstrators. Not big issue but go with an agreed value policy.
Maybe also negotiate a great deal on extended warranty. See the recent thread for pricing... |

They probably do it with everybodys car including yours. So whats your point. Getiing thrashed once a year around the block by a service technician vs getting thrashed regularly by randoms with the engine having done less than 5000kms is two different things Last edited by x328x; 03-01-2017 at 02:59 AM.. |

I've had demonstrators, new cars, ex race (personality F1 race) and I couldn't really tell the difference.
no real issues. I agree with the 5 year servicing - definitely worth it. Also, carefully check the paintwork, rims and condition of the leather - wear and tear on those items aren't covered, so you need to push them to fix any issues. I've had less trouble in the first year of ownership with my demonstrator M4 than with my new 335. |

The only damage I saw was a slight scratch/chipping near the front side of the car, picture below and major scratching on the bottom m performance front lip skirt. Do you think I should be pushing to fix these issues? Rims and interior are perfect. Bought a ODBII, and no errors/warning showed up. Doubt they would even think about fixing the lip, as it's basically a whole replacement. Last edited by Noble-; 03-01-2017 at 05:24 AM.. |

Still, don't ask don't get so may as well try your luck. Maybe just ask them to replace the plastic lugs if they won't replace the whole thing. Personally, I don't think everyone thrashes demonstrators. I know I don't. |

i think the decision should come down to the final price. i have bought demo's before, and had no issue. But i am sure that what other people have said is correct, that demos would get a thrashing from certain drivers...
essentially i think you have to look at the drive away price, comparing it to the cost of the same car if you were to find one brand new. when i bought my car last september, i went in with a view to buying one of their demos, but walked with brand new, because the price difference was negligable..

I believe the price is quite good, new would be around $105K (91K new) due to the m performance additions.
Selling in the low 70K range. Last edited by Noble-; 03-02-2017 at 01:47 AM.. |

If it's a 330i that does sound very pricey. I got my 328i MSport with all the M Performance exterior bits for $70k drive away brand new 2 years ago

It would want to have pretty much all conceivable options to get to 105k and then you should get into the 70's. It sounds like a pretty notional saving. Go in on the last day of the month and offer them in the low-mid 60s.

Having said that i dont think 70k with all the m performance accessories is a bad price. The 105 drive away price does sound high but i assume it was decked out What options and m performance accessories does it have |
