Coding Screen Mirroring

After going a bit crazy with coding last Sunday, I've discovered that my 4 series has hidden options to do screen mirroring from a phone (Android and only Miracast as far as I'm concerned) to the car screen.

After enabling options I thought were related to this feature, I can see a new position in the iDrive menu and I was able to connect to the car from my Windows laptop (only like 1 out of 20 tries though, no idea why).

However, the best I've got was getting this message after getting a proper connection:
"Starting mirroring screen..." and then nothing happened.

Did anyone try that and was able to make it work?

I'm giving another test on Thursday with a mobile phone.

I had done screen mirroring on all EVO ID5/6 head unit.

I've got a 16 plate and guess id5? Can this be enable for android?

That's cool, but can you share a bit more information please? What devices you tried to connect from, did you get any issues etc?

For now, I'm trying to determine if I just didn't code everything that's needed or I simply used a wrong device to try (a phone with Chromecast and Windows 10 laptop).

As far as I'm concerned it can only potentially work with Android.

Tomorrow, I'm having another test with my colleague's phone. If it works I'll let you know what I did.

You have to plug in the wifi antenna or it won't connect, either an OEM or aftermarket antenna will work.

Not a great example but this is what it may look like. Kind of like Chromecast but to the iDrive

Not sure I see the point as you are breaking the law if you have to touch the phone whilst driving ?

I agree Steve. The only thing that it may be any use for is if you prefer to use 3rd party nav apps, such as Waze or something.

Sorry for bringing back this old post, but it's the closest to my doubt;
I'm at a loss with all these NBT and id talk... and most are talking about more recent id5 and id6.

I have a F20 LCI 06/2015 with Pro Nav, which is NBTEvo for sure, and I'm guessing it's the id4...?

wibbles, can screen mirroring for Android devices be activated in these?

I've seen some wifi options while configuring the usual stuff with bimmercode, but I assumed it wouldn't be that, and haven't looked again...

If it’s an NBT EVO unit then it will be ID5 or ID6.

If you get a WiFi antenna then I’m sure it would be code-able!

I hope I'm not mixing things...
I say it's a NBTEvo because that's what it says in Navigation's map version...
But I also lean towards it been an ID4, because that's what the photos in Google seem to me...

The ID5 and ID6, aren't they all with the tiles layout?
Mine is not, it's the version before... like this one (web image): (deleted link, don't work)
