442 alloys - center starting to corrode

Giving the car it's pre winter clean/wax and noticed 1 of the rear alloys is starting to corrode around the center cap!

Anyone else had this issue with the 442 alloys? Car is an 16 plate and only done 7odd thousand miles

Yes you should have no problems with replacement under the 3 year manufacturers warranty. Take it to dealers they will photograph and send to BMW for authorisation to change, book in for change, had mine changed within days.

My car is 22 months old with 17,000 miles. I just had a 442 wheel replaced under warranty and mine wasn't as bad as yours.

I did have to book it in for a full inspection to ensure it wasn't caused through damage.

I have my June 2015 F36 booked in next weekend for alloy wheel corrosion assessment. They said they need it for a full day :

If your car is a long term keeper, you could hold off until a couple of weeks before the 3 year point, and get the full set replaced as I did.

TBH the other rear alloy has gone a little bit. Can't see anything on the fronts.

I'm OCD about these things and heard about horror stories with BMW alloys but personally never had it before until now (3rd BMW)

Will take it in next week and see what crap they try and feed me (sytner Leicester)

I had the same, they needed it for the day. They said it was to get the car on the ramps and do a full inspection of the wheel. Later that day they sent me a text and a link to a video, showing a full vehicle inspection inc all of the underside of the car. A short time later they called to say the wheel had been replaced under warranty....so I was relieved, but why the car had a full inspection and had a detailed report on tyre tread depths etc is baffling.

Is there a chemical that you could apply every few months to reduce this happening especially when outside warranty period.
I think its accurate to say that all 442s are going corrode and maybe prevention is better than a cure (again especially once the warranty period is over).

Well to my surprise went to BMW on Friday afternoon ready for an argument. Tech came out and had a look then his boss has a look and took some pictures and without any hassle at all agreed and 2 new alloys ordered.

So got to say fair play and without any bother at all

Yours corroded preety quick, just out of interest. What do you use to wash your wheels? or do you use a 5 car wash?
