If anyone wondered how 640M's look like on a wagon...wonder no more. Raining wet s*it for the whole day today so the car is not in a shiny mood.

Was looking for a 335d Xdrive but this popped up cheap. Lowered with H&r 45mm. Extra low ones. I know, never thought I’d be without it.. |

My wife and I have been vdub people for most of our adult lives... but that is changing due to many reasons that we don't need to hash up in detail (dieselgate, poor long term support, 2.0t's with terrible timing systems, etc.) anyway, our stable of cars is about to change dramatically: '81 Scirocco, just sold, '90 Corrado G60 (rebuilt, just need to button it up), '09 GTI (my daily), '07 Audi A4 (her daily, just sold), '06 Chevy Silverado 2500HD (horse hauler).
We put money down on a 2014 328d xDrive Wagon in Mineral Grey Metallic. We both love hatches and euro wagons and we're excited to get it. My wife was a bit sad to give up her manual transmission, but we both were very impressed with the 8 speed on the F31. Enough that we can make the transition as long as we keep a manual car around for some fun! Here it is: It's got pretty red leather, driver assist, sport package, navigation... but they didn't put HIDs on it... I'm baffled by that. Our 07 A4 has them.. my GTI, which is half the sticker price of this thing, has them... From what I hear, it's a $900 option that turns to about $2-3k after the fact. I've read in lots of threads that people upgrade the H7 bulbs a bit... or I see I could look at Kensun LED conversions that are better in Halogen reflector housings... So the lights are my first question, but I can ask any F30/31 person that... what I'm really here for is to ask about your racks! I've been a Yakima guy for my last two daily drivers, however, I think I want to keep my Yakima on my GTI for now because I may be needing to haul my bike without the wife, so rather than steal her car all the time, I think I need another rack. Most of what I've seen here is Thule and BMW branded ones... I think I saw one or two Yaks, but can I have some feedback? Is the BMW one decent? Do standard bike mounts that work on aerobars fit onto it or are you stuck buying the BMW branded mounts? Thanks much, can't wait to post up some pics of it all loaded up! edit: Here are a couple loaded GTI pics... for some reason, I don't have any pics of bikes on my roof... LOL, which happens like 3 times week. Last edited by Barren23; 11-08-2017 at 01:47 PM.. |

Picked up our 2014 328d yesterday in Iowa... got as far as Madison, WI, before the check engine light came on... ugh. Pulling codes tomorrow.
That said, I ordered a Yakima FrontLoader bike holder for the roof, I think I'll buy the BMW branded rack as it looks really clean with no overhang on the bars and pricing-wise, it seems a little cheaper than Thule or Yakima. I'll probably end up buying another front loader along with locks and all that jazz, but I have all winter to amass all the gear. First impressions are that this car is pretty cool. Sad about the no Xenons, and the check engine light, but I have a warranty to get the engine figured out. The HUD is really slick, I wasn't wowed by it during the test drive, but the minute to add navigation or media to the mix and that HUD shows it's value! Also, it's loaded with the birdseye backup camera setup, which is pretty slick as well. Hoping it has the BMW Connected options too, but I didn't have USB cable with me to test that connectivity out. The bluetooth works great, voice commands for phone or canceling nav worked well. Figuring out iDrive is interesting. As you learn more features, it's pretty slick. Confusing at first, I had dual maps up there at one point...lol The high beams are great even in Halogen... low beams seem a bit too low for me, can you manually adjust those at all? |
