Rosslyn Ships

Folks that have order from the SA Rosslyn Plants. Can you chime in on what ships or shipping lines that BMW used.
Seems like there is a lot of info on ships coming from Germany / Bremerhaven. also it seems like its 50/50 split on whether it goes to Germany then to US.

I'm from the west coast so any insight on that as well.

Thanks

C

I have a rosslyn SA built 340i xdrive. Ordered in early January of 2017 and took delivery in End of April in Connecticut. My car was on the Galaxy Ace - which is a big boat in a fleet of many with the name Ace in them. Here is a link to the owner of this vessel and many others it would seem. Best of Luck - the wait was excruciating for me!

Rosslyn SA build here as well, took delivery a couple weeks ago.

You can track the vessel schedule for the carrier from this page.
http://www.molroro.com/MOLVesselSchedule.aspx

Just set your "POL" to 'durban' and see which vessels head to the US west coast.

Once your vehicle is out of production use this site to see when it gets dropped off at the port by BMW - http://41.160.4.58:8080/apex/f?p=102:11:0::NO

To search on this site change the Category type to 'Cars' and enter the last seven of your VIN. The site was about a day behind for my '18 340i xDrive, but let me know when it arrived at port (via rail) and which boat it left on, which I could then track with the vessel schedule site linked above.

And once underway the best site I found for vessel tracking was https://www.marinetraffic.com/, which was always more up to date than any of the other vessel tracking sites I looked at.

And for me, my boat (NEPTUNE ACE) went from Rosslyn/Durban to another port in SA and then straight New Jersey, skipping the stop in Europe. It then stopped in Baltimore which was my port of entry. Boats out of Rosslyn/Durban to the US do seem to be more spread out compared to German builds, leaving once every 3-4 weeks. My car sat at the port for 22 days becuase I just missed a vessel heading to the east coast. The transit at sea was 20 days.

I can't take credit for all this good tracking info, there's a thread with these details in another post. I can confirm this worked great for me.

Best luck tracking your vehicle. It's cliche because you see everyone saying it, but the wait is well worth it!

Thanks! Based on my current tracking via the website above. I am hoping that the car is on a boat on 11-21 and take a two month journey on Prime Ace to Port Hueneme. I just hope no delays in production. it is slated to complete on 11/13.

Shit its only been 1 week since I ordered and the wait is crazy! lol

The wait is the worst part and you've got a double whammy with SA+West Coast. The vessel schedule definitely shifted by a day or two in each direction throughout the voyage, but the boat left on the date it was scheduled. You may want to track it inbound just to be sure it's not delayed. I would guess you will have enough time between production complete and making it to the port. For me my production ended up taking an extra two days from the original estimate (for unknown reasons).

Here was my timeline. I thought it was helpful to see other's timelines even though each is unique. My total time was just under 90 days and that was with what seems to be a pretty quick turnaround from order placed to production start.

Activity Date Days Comment
Order Placed 8/7/17 0
Production Started 8/13/17 6
Production Complete 8/25/17 12
Enroute to Carrier 8/26/17 1
At port 8/27/17 1 Arrival at Port by Rail
At sea 9/18/17 22 NEPTUNE ACE
Arrive at VPC 10/8/17 20 Baltimore
Port Install Accessories 10/20/17 12 MPPSK
Arrival at dealer 10/26/17 6
Vehicle Purchased 10/30/17 4
Total Days 84

shawns321 Yup you are right about the double whammy.

I do wonder how will they treat West coast bound vehicles in the coming weeks.. According to MOL. Durban has 2 ships at around 17th and the 21st.

17th Ship has a route to the US. Durban-E. London (SA)-Bayonne-Balitmore-brunswick-Galveston-Tuxpan

21st ship has a route to Durban>East London>Port Elizabeth>Vigo>Zeebrugge>Emden>Bremerhaven>Halifax >Charleston Brunswick>Panama Canal>Long Beach>Port Hueneme

In my mind the 17th would be quicker as it hits US soil Galveston on Dec 17th. but it still needs to get to Port Hueneme. Not sure if they have a rail From Galveston or NJ to Port Hueneme VPC.

The 21st ship would just be on the boat longer as it does a milk run to germany then to the US. with it hitting the west coast vpc on 1-12.

I guess i'll find out soon enough!
