I paid 35,800 for my 320i with ZSP, ZLP, 609 full Nav, B39, Fineline Anthracite wood trim, heated seats and folding rear seats.

And now I can put on as many miles as I like inside my 12 year corrosion warranty and have a good long time without any payments - it will work nicely with my needs for quite awhile.

My point of this thread was to say that now, a comparable car will cost me at least $2,500 more @ $38,300 assuming the Sport steering wheel and LEDs are even included - but, since the configurator sucks, it's hard to tell. A comparable 430i is 43,600 and a 340i is 46,900. If the M sport package was included in the 340i when I bought, I might have gone that route.

Looking at that, the 330i is still the least value and you could argue the 340i is the best if only paying $3,300 more for a glorious 6 cylinder. I'd pay $1,650 more per cylinder I guess I just can't get over the premium they expect for the 330i when it's still a 2.0 L 4 cylinder.

ZLP does bring the appearance of the car up a bit, but they don't work all that great - better than the halogen I guess, but still disappointing really.

I really need to move to a four door from my 2016 228i 6MT base coupe.

I've considered both new X3's 330i and M40i.....the 330i or the 340i both would be Sdrive RWD manuals.

From all the posts....seems the base 340i with say heated front seats would be a good value. That's all my 228i base coupe has..heated seats and Park View camera and I love driving the car...but I need 4 doors.

I live in Portsmouth NH and have a MB 350 ML 4matic for the few days a year (like today's blizzard) to get around if need be.

I have my doubts the 6MT will be offered in the new 3 series.

Ah there he is, once a troll always a troll.

My 320i was about 1% of MSRP, not a 'terrible deal', considering there are a multitude of people in stripper base 3 series on the road well into the high 400 range. But compared to the deal I got on the 328, definitely doesn't touch it. I have talked to a lot of people in 'real life', along with hearing about people's deals on the forums and a lease doesn't get much better than $367 a month for a 328i with a sticker price of almost $49k.

Unless they are giving you monster discounts on the 328 that you wouldn't get on the 335/340, I would never buy or lease a 49k 328. I'd be in a 6 cylinder for sure. But when I bought, 36k vs 49k - or more, wasn't so easy to justify.

Why wouldn't you? $367 a month is less than people I know at my work that lease Camrys. Its dirt for a $49k BMW. No one on earth is leasing a 340i for anywhere near that. Friend of mine got his 340i from the supposed forum car salesmen guru, Greg Poland and its a low end 340i with no nav and basically standard options and he went back and forth with Greg for a while and I think his lease is $485 a month.

And they were giving monster discounts - at the time, 335i didn't have near the incentives or as high a residual value as the 328's at the time. If the deals are right, MSRP isn't that important and a 330 on a lot with an MSRP of $15k more than a 320i sitting right next to it could end up leasing for only like $30 more a month. As I said, buying is a different story

I priced that guy and he didn't even quote me an attractive enough price to make my first cut. I certainly wouldn't use his number as a good deal.

Garage List
If BMW offered the M package and the upgraded h/k sound on the 320i, it'd be a lot more attractive.
However, I'm in agreement the 330i is hardly worth considering if you're buying. When I bought my 340i it was like $3k or something more than a 330i with the same level of options. Including the M-Sport kit as standard equipment on the 340i was the main reason for that.
I did look at a base F80 M3, which wasn't that much more than a loaded 340i, but it would have lacked many of the features I had on a loaded 340i. Heads-up display, etc. I think I would miss those features. Also if you are planning to modify your car, the parts for an M are considerably more expensive. I got a very nice Dinan exhaust for my 340i; Dinan charges almost double for the F80 M3 exhaust.

Anything 1% or below MSRP for the equipvalent monthly on a lease is typically considered a pretty good deal. High 4's to mid 6's is standard for 340i's, depending on how they're optioned.

Pea, your 320i is optioned perfectly in my opinion and thats a good deal. Typically the 320 starts to make even less sense when you start tacking on option packages because the spread gets even less between it and a 328 with a decent # of options. I forget now, are you stock or are you running some kind of remap or piggyback tuner?

I just don't know how people can buy and keep a car long enough for it to make sense financially and still be satisfied.. Like I am less than a year and a half into this lease and I beyond want to jump ship and get into a 440i Gran Coupe. That is like, THE car if you ask me. That is the realistic dream Bimmer for me. 440i GC. Aint gonna happen though, at least not for another year and a half. But like, if I had bought this 328, I would have to keep it for like 6 years or more before it made more sense than the lease. Screw that.

Meh I bought my 335i because it's what I wanted, it's your 440GC.

If we're talking about being financially responsible BMW is out of the question, period.

Different strokes for different folks.
I had a GC as a loaner and I didn't see the attraction. It drove like a much heavier car. I hated that about my 550i. Rear visibility wasn't great and rear passenger space was less. All for a hatch back I wouldn't use and a higher selling price.

I do not yet run a tune on my 320i. I figured I would right away when I ordered it, but it only seems slow to me when looking for acceleration above 50, and I guess I don't call for that too often anymore. That's was the 550is best skill, and I too realized I was underutilizing it. I will likely run JB4 map 5 as some point, but I'm not jonesing yet. I think the power in the 320i is underrated. It's rated near my first BMW, an E46 325i sport, and it is certainly peppier than that, but I guess passing power isn't as good as that 6 cylinder was so...

Getting a new car every 3 years and having to watch my milage is a hassle. Arranging a good winter set of wheels, coding, getting all the little things the way I like them takes me nearly a year or more, and to do that over and over would be a drag. My car is not my cell phone. I have no interest in keeping up with the latest gadgets. Also, this time around, I timed it so I will have no car payments the entire time my kids are in college. Plus my state prices annual registration based on annually depreciated base price value, so owning a new to 3 year old car constantly costs big for plates every year. At 10 years old, plates are like $40. On my 3 year old 550, plates were over $750 for my first year. 3 of my 5 cars are over 10 years old. And my two newer ones both have a base price under the new car average, so plates aren't as bad as they could be.

I would get a 340 or an M3 with little gadgets too, so the M3 certainly is attractive, but I do really appreciate the more subtle approach of the 340. M3 is just trying a little too hard aesthetically, but it's hard to pass up when comparing the two for value as a sports sedan.
