Buy Back From Bmw
2012 F30 320d Luxury with £8K of extras. 12500 miles.
After having 5 steering racks fitted and BMW proposing to fit a sixth steering rack I said no. Negotiations with Stratstone and BMW has resulted in them offering £6035 and my car towards a new X3. The first steering rack was changed at 10 days old. i.e. It arrived from the factory with a faulty steering rack. Since then my car has been off the road for a total of 6 weeks. If BMW didn't know there is a fault on the rack why are they are now on the third version of steering racks since 2012? Comments please on if you think this is a fair offer. |

I had a new steering rack fitted just two weeks ago. Problem was there from early on and I brought it to the attention of the dealership after 6K miles (in late 2012). It took several visits and another 19K miles on the clock for them to finally agree there was a fault and replace it under warranty.
Touch wood the problem seems sorted now but I can understand your frustration - not sure I'd have been patient enough to let them fit six

Sounds pants. There is one here going for £18k+ with similar spec through a dealer. I'd suggest you'd get £14k+ selling privately. Maybe that's the best solution, sell it and start again...with another dealer!

Don't you have to list the full offer for others to be able to judge the deal?
For example if you car is on a PCP then getting £6k out is a pretty good deal, as it would likely be in neg eq. On the other hand a £6k discount on a X3 is probably only so-so, but you will be getting market 'sell' value for yours. List what you paid, what you are buying, what they are offering, etc, for more accurate feedback. |

What model of X3 are you looking at and is it the latest facelift version - beware they will likely palm you off with an outgoing model. There aren't massive discounts available on the X3 like there are on the F30/31 models.

Update
Sorry it's taken 3 years to reply but I've only just looked at this forum again.
The update was Bmw took my brand new faulty 320 luxury and gave me £10k towards a new X3 fully loaded with most of the extras. Because the wait time on a new X3 was 9 months they loaned me a second hand 2014 X3 until the new X3 arrived xmas 2014. Couldn't complain really. |

Which dealership did you use?
As trying to get your points across to the master tech and convince him of the problem and the service manager can be a mammoth task at the best of times. We've had the steering racks changed on both cars. Both under 30k miles What a joke bmw! They really don't build them like they used to!
