Tyre size
Hi all,
Just about to change my front tyres, currently running Continentals but not really happy with the grip. I already decided to go for Michelin Pilot Sport 4. My question is , can I change the size from 225x 45x 18 to 225x 40x 18? as they about £35 cheaper per tyres. Will that make any difference in the handling? |

shouldn't really mix brand and tread patterns for tires. if anything you could upsize all four to 235/45/18 instead to get a lil more sidewall.
I cant remember if a 245 can fit an 8" rim but you could also go for 245/40/18. That is only .25" shorter than stock.

Stock 225/45-18 235/45-18 improvement in ride and handling 245/45-18 tall at about 26.3" diameter over stock 26.0" so fills up wheel wells for a lowered look and provides best ride because of increased sidewall height 245/40-18 25.7" in diameter. Provides best handling of all sizes listed Diameters listed are for Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. See TireRack specs for actual tire sizes by brand, model & size. Don't go by size stamped on size of tire. I switched from the wooden wagon wheel runflats to 245/40-18 with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Amazing handling and ride. I know that you can save a few bucks with some other highly rated tires, but these are the best and worth every penny. Cost <$1,000 installed. I know that 245/45 is supposed to be an even more comfortable ride but I can't imagine it handling rough roads better than my 245/40's. Handles like a sharply tuned BMW, but rides like some Lexus & Mercedes that I have driven. Got most of my knowledge from the Hawaiian wheel/tire guru alohasurftoad. So check out his posts for lots of good stuff! Hope this helps! |

245 series tire is rated for 7.5"-9" wheel. I had 245/45/18 on my factory 397 wheels which are 8" and now am using the same tires on my 9" wheels. No issues
