Idrive displaying black screen when pressing voice command button.
Hello all, I purchased my 335i xdrive 2013 a few months ago, and have realized that the voice command is working properly, but it is just not displaying on the idrive when I press the button on the steering wheel. The idrive just displays "no signal". Is this a connection issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

So just because it says av1 no signal means the screen module isn't oem? I'm pretty sure it's oem I just think someone might have tampered with some of the electronics and maybe something got unplugged but just need to figure out what got messed up.

I think the screen is oem, but the computer and connects aren't? The color on the screen looks oem, but the multimedia computer has a sticker on it that says "f20", and I see two av cables that say "audio in" but don't know where they lead to. Is this a computer from a different car and isn't capable of displaying voice command options?

screen is definitely oem. never seen av1 popup before but doesnt matter as it’s oem.
one thing to try and look to see if there is an update for your HU. https://www.bmwusa.com/owners/software-updates.html |

Yes I've tried that, it says no updates needed. I get av1 popups and navi popups saying no signal as I press the voice command button. Is it because the radio/multimedia computer is from a different car? I noticed that the video cable connecting to the display isn't the same color as the oem port on the display

is that the only issue you have when you press the voice command? does everything work normal after you start the car and the display turns on? it’s once you press the voice command, that’s the only time the error comes up?
i can’t speak if the unit is from another car. if it was, it either wasnt coded correctly or something is failing. have you had a chance to get ista and run a scan to see what codes (if any) are being generated? |

grab yourself a copy of esys as well as you may need that too.
at least it all works except that voice command. sounds like the previous owner surely did some sort of coding and/or retrofit. |

I ended up taking it to a dealership, they said it was because of the rear view camera aftermarket software. They said the car needs to be updated and reset back to factory to fix the problem as it also hasn't been updated since 2015. Will this mean i can no longer use the backup camera? Can I update the car and still use the aftermarket camera? Dealer quoted me like $330 to update and reset. Is it worth it?

i-step can usually be good as it fixes other issues that you may not notice.
who knows what after market camera/sw installed but i use an aftermarket rear camera and there is no problem after i-step updates but it really depends on your camera. You can update i-step yourself with ista and latest psdz but you’ll need something to keep battery going during the update process to ensure constant voltage otherwise there is a chance to brick and no choice but pay dealership. For $330 and piece of mind and if you want to use that button, pay dealer and worry abt rear camera afterwards. |
