N20 Carbon buildup

Hi, was hoping someone could let me know what they think of the carbon buildup if it's something serious or if I can do something like an engine flush to fix it? Thanks.

That's not carbon, it's burnt lubricant. A good flush, like LiquiMoly, wouldn't hurt. Make sure you're using 100% synthetic oil.

Thanks, stupid question but is taking some of it off by hand a bad idea? I'm meaning mostly on the valvetronic system that's quite thick.

I wouldn't do so by mechanical means. I'd try spray carburetor cleaner.

Thanks, again, dumb question, but any thoughts on this being thick enough that it would be dangerous using engine flush, as this may clog the oil pump pickup screen (apparently?). I have actually used engine flush (liqui moly) before, in fact within the last 1000km but I've since discovered my thermostat is stuck open and will be replacing it, and I don't drive with this car it's been almost 9 months since so the oil might need changing anyway. I suspect though with that engine flush it never got as hot as it was supposed to to do its work due to the thermostat being stuck open, could be wrong, but I didn't have any issues with clogged screens so I'm hoping that would be ok.
