The last news from my BMW dealer: They are going to change the plastic holes in all doors to solve the problem. Let's wait and see.
Parts Nš: 51417316859 - Front doors and 51427316860 - Back doors. |

Hi I have the same noise. I took of my door panel to have a look, the metal rod with the pin on top connects to a plastic circular piece through a hole in the plastic. This plastic piece moves up and down when the door is unlocked and locked hence the pin moves up and down with the metal rod
Now the metal rod on noisy door is able to move freely inside the hole in the plastic pice so when you drive over rough road it will rattle as the rod vibrates in the plastic around the pin. I haven't fixed it yet but before reading this Thread about electrical tape fix , I was considering using a gum like glue to fix the rod onto the plastic pice so it won't move freely.

Does anyone know what these pins are for? I remember them from the seventies but that was before power locks and I haven't seen them since. I see that Mercedes' have them also. Anyone know the purpose for them?

Figured I'd wake this thread back up and see if anyone had heard anything dealer related to a fix.
I've been using electrical tape but have had to change it twice because the heat from the sun caused the tape to come loose. Also, anyone know if the door pins unscrew like the old days?? If they do, it might make it easier to line the grommet with felt or velcro. I've been afraid to try and unscrew them if they are "fixed". |

I had a rattle that I thought FOR SURE was coming from the passenger front door. My dealer had a hard time finding the reason, took them 2 days.... but eventually found the windshield washer tank under the hood was loose, causing the rattle.

Argh, mine is getting worse - rear passenger side door. I don't believe it's the pin because I play music, hop into the back seat and hold the pin and I still hear buzzing. Today it's even worse. It used to buzz every once in a while on certain types of music passages. Now it's buzzing a lot more...which might make it easier to pinpoint if I can get the panel off.

yes just like that , very simple, use some kind of plastic tool to pop them out, do not use a anything sharp like screwdriver, just use some plastic , they will pop out very easy!!!!!!
***** please note the front housing pins are different from the back housing pins, do each pin at a time, i have put velcro inside all housing pins , rattle are gone |

one more recommendation, the rubber seals bmw uses is not of high quality
after you fix the pins housing, i would recommend one time per month to spray the seals of the doors with Wurth Gummi Rubber care this will make the doors much qauiter. |

First week I had the car another zing annoyed me but turned out an Excel pack, the gum against the metal aluminium foil, in the driver's door space. Once I removed it it went away. Another rattle was inside the armrest- it went away. Anyone tried silicone? Once it solidifies, silicone is a terrific small vibration absorber. Never tried it nor thought of it until seeing these posts today. If the pins can be removed, one can coat the inside of the whole with silicone. |

My passenger door lock pin just started rattling over certain bumps. Only occurs when locked. If unlocked don't get the rattle.
Will have to pull the pin housing and try tape.

This week my BMW dealer fixed the door rattle. They substitute the old pins for a new ones, and the interior of these are not in plastic, they are quilt with some textile. Problem solve.
They also change both front sun visors for a new ones, these ones have much better quality and no more rattle. I am satisfy! I hope a can help. |
