So not an AR or variant, but I bought this some time ago and yesterday was the first day back to the range in a very long time. We moved here in October 2020, and it took us until February 2022 to join a new range, the waiting lists are ridiculous. Henry Carbine in .357. Butter smooth action, I love the way it shoots. The .22 was my wife's ammo, she was shooting on the next bench.

I need one in every room and at every lookout point/balcony, plus one on my hip, one slung over my shoulder and one in a pocket for back-up. A few hidden in the vents as well as a few hidden under floorboards. That should do it.

I carried a Glock 22 for about 20 years of my 30+ year career. As did my 5500+ brothers and sisters, and most law enforcement agencies in NA. Literally millions of rounds fired annually. If you're having malfunctions with a Glock you might be shooting really dirty ammo or have some mechanical issue. No gun will run without stoppages 100% of the time, but the reason LE uses Glock is primarily the reliability. There are lots of other reasons but they sit in an open holster getting rained and snowed on, pizza sauce and donut sugar (I might as well say that), many officers don't do proper cleaning etc and they work when you need them.

I know when we trained the ammo wasn't great and we'd get stoppages on occasion but that was also an important training exercise. Clearing a stoppage is an important muscle memory exercise. I've never had a stoppage once when shooting duty loads.

I'm one of those people who just doesn't like Glock. From the terrible triggers to their mediocre accuracy. They feel terrible to hold for my hands as well. Had a 20, 19 and still have a 17. Least favorite handgun by far.
Of all the ones that I've owned the Wilson CQBE 1911 is miles ahead in 1st place followed by HK USP .45 and Beretta M9. M9 doesn't get much love but it's easily the most comfortably shaped handgun for my hand. Very smooth and accurate too. |

I could never get on with Glocks either (…although I almost purchased a 43X a few years ago). I can understand why people like them though; they are the Honda Civic of handguns. The modification potential is endless and they are reliable. I just favor the S&W M&P-Series guns more.

(Possibly exacerbated by the compact/micro size Glocks that friends had as EDC's which didn't feel comfortable in my hand) Personally, I am most at home with the Beretta 92 platform - did a bunch of upgrades (steel trigger, D-spring, recoil rod, springs, etc) on a 92FS that made it even better by reducing the trigger travel and pull weight, etc. And I find HK's 45 offering to be the smoothest firing 45 to be...haven't tried the USP, but the HK45 is butter smooth out of the box. (Still looking for a 1911 Colt or Springfield, etc. as part of my "everyone should have a 1911") The ammo discussion above reminds me - apparently, there's a batch of .223 ammo out of Norma that is having all sorts of issues as per some gun forums / reddit etc. So if you bought new .223 Norma ammo recently, might want to check the batch numbers etc |
