BMS Tune - 320i boost target increase

Out of curiosity - Since the 320i is running about 4-5PSI less than the 328i, what if you used the JB4 stage 1 and, instead of 3-4PSI, requested say 7 PSI?

I am thinking 4PSI to get to stock 328i boost levels, and then 3PSI to get to stage 1 328i levels.

Now I realize they potentially have different CR on the pistons - but what if I went to say 5 PSI, and started to creep up form there?

Am I going to throw a code when I trip some PSI overboost threshold in the DME? Or just blow my motor? (I assume the car has a stock wideband O2 and all I will be doing is leaning it out and making the car slower as it goes into a fail safe mode from too lean a fuel mix?)

I am running 0%-Ethanol 94 octane gas, and looking for some more power. Currently running the Stage 1 BMW @ +4PSI... Wondering if this logic would allow me to go +6 or 7...

I am sure it won't but I was thinking about it over lunch, so I thought I'd ask...

ive talked to both terry and jon from bms and they insist to run 4psi. iam almost convince that the car responds better to +3psi though. I don't think they spent a lot of time on the tune for our cars. there is defiently signs of hesitation when accelerating & at redline rpm. when I run with 3psi, all problems disappear. I wouldn't suggest going any higher unless u get the stage 2 and run e85.

I would expect your next post after doing this to be it was going great until it went bang. That car was never designed to do what you want to do

Reference Stage 2 for N20 engines from the N54tech forums....

Map 0: Stock performance, JB4 off
Map 1: Peak boost 20psi, suitable for stock and mildly modified cars on pump gas
Map 2: Peak boost 21psi, suggested for those using a downpipe and 93 octane (USA) or higher fuels
Map 3: Progressive methanol mapping, coming soon
Map 4: Stock performance, JB4 on
Map 5: 320i/520i map. Peak boost 17psi.

Those with a 320i/520i may only use map 5. Maps 1, 2, & 7 will cause the motor to run lean, knock, and other unpleasantness. Due to the lower factory boost targets in the 320i/520i they also require both the FlexFuel connector ($25) for proper fueling. Email us for additional information as needed.

Simply put, with the higher CR, different fuel mapping in the DME, you will not be able to run higher boosts as yet...

Garage List
320 engine isn't made to handle too much boost. While its also a 2.0L like the x28, the internals aren't the same if memory serves. None of the cars are fortified enough (stock) to handle much more than 4lbs. Of course, you can go forged internals, Stage 2 turbos, etc...but then you are throwing boatloads of $ at it.

I'm running the Dinantronics Sport at +3psi.

I'd definitely heed the advice of earlier posts and not get too greedy. +3psi gives you plenty of kick. It ain't no 335/340 thats for sure. Never will be. If you want anything faster, buy a faster car. There's a margin of safety engineered into these cars, but you don't wanna find it.....

I'm thinking of picking this is for my 320i as well. After some research it looks like the Sport module comes stock at Sport + (+3). So theoretically it's install and drive?

It is. Just make sure the engine ECU is asleep before you install it. Really makes a difference in how the 320 runs. I might be selling mine, if you are interested!
