Potenza S-04 vs. Extremecontact DW
anyone have both of these tires and can compare both? I've had the S-04 two times in the past and i've never had a problem with them. Right now tire rack is having a close out on the DW's so I can get them for $150 cheaper than the S-04's but i've never had the DW's. Are they just as good as the S-04's? Or am I better off just spending the extra $$ for the S-04?

I would stick with what you know, but you can always compare specs to see which ones are better. More expensive doesn't necessarily mean they'll perform any better. I'd look at treadlife rating, wet and dry performance. Speed ratings, etc. maybe even a couple of YouTube reviews or reviews in general.

i've had both, on different cars, though. the s-04's are good but heavy. the dw's are very light. have a thin sidewall which makes them light and have great ride comfort but causes a bit sloppy steering response. you can run higher pressure to combat some of it but it's not quite the same as a stiffer sidewall.
i'd look into the mpss, mps4s, conti sportcontact 6, extremecontact sport, also. if the tire weight is not a concern the s-04 is a fine tire Last edited by alohasurftoad; 04-10-2017 at 10:24 AM.. |

I loved my S04s but they are in fact heavy. They last me so long though (23k miles + 2 track days)
I was ready to pull the trigger on another set, but then saw a recent Max Perf Summer tire test on tirerack where they pitted the Pilot Super Sport against the new Pirelli P Zero 4, new Goodyear Eagle F1 3, and the new Kumho PS91. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=218 All tires received excellent ratings, with Michelin taking top honors (no surprise). The tire that stood out to me the most though was the Kumho PS91 mainly because of it's value, but also it's dry performance. I ended up buying a set at risk, but the price was too good to pass up with the current $100 rebate they have on the tires. The tires cost me 550 shipped after the rebate and I am blown away. They feel like a lot like the S04s, but are more responsive, have more grip, and they weigh about the same as the Pilot Sports. They also look really stylish (imo) which couldn't be said about past Kumho tires. I've never bought Kumhos before but haven't heard the best things. I checked the forums for these and even though they're new people are loving these tires. |
