Hi Dang3r and thank you. Yep already done the centre trim panel. Just didnt have it fitted for the photos. Would love to see how the 6D roof wrap looks. If I'd kept my white E92, I would have gone for a 6D CF (just put a black wrap on it instead). |

I'm about to attempt this. I have hated the faux wood from day one , and conveniently broke one of the door handles last week when installing my BavSound stage one. I glued it back together, and hope the vinyl will cover up my sins.
All the info in this thread, and this video have been quote helpful: |

Ok, after being quoted over $400 for the work, I thought I'd research this a bit more. I'm getting sick of the wood grain. Seeing all the DIY'ers here, pics, and links to the various types of wraps, you all have given me the courage to try this myself. I'll start with the handles first as they're easier to remove and to get the hang of the actual wrapping.
Anyone have a list of the exact tools needed? - Heat gun (will use a blow dryer) - Wrap material (will a 60x24 work)? - Trim piece remover - trim piece cutter or sharp knife (any specific ones recommended)? - Time and Patience Anything else?? Any other input will help! Wish me luck! Subscribing. Awesome thread!

That pretty much covers it, but buy extra wrap and be prepared to goof things up your first few tries. A small heat gun is better than a hairdryer, allowing you to heat just small areas of wrap. Like this:

Im not really a fan of heat guns, they have the side effect, that they would heat up the desired area very quickly but sometimes the adhesive is smokin' up additionally, whats meaning, that you have to start with a new piece again.
Hence the total removal of the trimpanels isnt to avoid, a hairdryer would be everytime my first choice. @d_a_m : The door handle covers have a small slot down at their 6 o'clock position. Insert a small slotted screwdriver and pull gently upwards, do not insert and bend! If your applied force is suitable, the covers are popping off. Remove them beginning from botton to upper attachment and watch the studs and the small hooks that they're not breaking. Reinstall vice versa, insert the handle top side with the single hook and make your way downwards. You would encounter more pressures' necessary for assembling the last studs, experience the best way to close up final, this is a little tricky w/o breaking any material. Good luck out there

I did this to my interior (Will post pics later) and didnt even need any heat. Only used the hairdryer to heat up the bits that would fold under the trim. (Made them more pliable and stretched them underneath for better grip). I was quoted £300 and ended up paying £25 for the DINOC and took me 2 hours.

A small gun of the type I linked is easy to control. It's only 300w, a lot less than the average hair dryer. I especially like being able to heat a small spot where there's a recess that the film doesn't want to go into. Heat the film, press it into the recess with a finger, hold it there until it cools. This molds the shape of the film to that of the recess, so it's not relying purely on the adhesive to hold it in place.

I wouldnt say that every heatgun is a bust, but if you are a real amateur at wrapping and doing this the very first time, the risk of damaging something is not the lowest. Just saying

Someone else was asking the question between the Dinoc vs 1080. I personally like the glossier version better, but prefer to see it in person first before pulling the trigger. Ordered the Dinoc CA-1170 and 1080 CF12 SAMPLES especially after seeing this image
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/...d/CIMG2110.jpg And then the entire thread (yes, its scotchprint) https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-di-noc-4.html and several other images of course Thoughts?

Di-Noc is almost twice as thick as 1080, so it will stand up to stretching much better before ripping. I've used both, won't use 1080 again.

Does the Dinoc wrap look anything like the dry carbon that comes with alcantara/cf trim? I'm trying to wrap my gear shifter surround and also the silver trims on the doors. Please link me to one that is closest to the dry carbon look. Thank you!

No, if you want the real deal, use 6D Carbon wrap, thats the very closest thing to real Carbon.
To make this visible to you, heres a pic of the wrapped center trim piece and the original carbon trim outside.

Hey guys! Should've posted these pics a while ago but I have wrapped my whole interior in the DINOC 3M wrap. It looks fantastic in certain lighting and decent in others, but overall definitely a solid mod to do. The 1080 excels in direct sunlight and the DINOC excels in low lighting. Mainly just because of the reflectiveness of the 1080 vs the flatness of the DINOC.

As far as to judge from here, the 1080 at left upper and center dash panels, the CA-421 at door handles and lower iDrive panel

So after a few samples and a good offer by a buddy who owns a shop, I went with 3M 1080. I've only done 2 pieces so far: vent and upper trim. Here are the before and after so far. Still have the lower center and door handles to go.
