Hufs?

I see that BMW stole some 2007 VW Hufeisen wheels for the ActiveHybrid3

And Plus One Here !

... but thankfully it's an easy fix!
and furthermore to make this AH3 attractive, we can order the car in any lines with any other wheels !!!

I thought we were stuck with this soft color and ugly robocop rims!

so now we have 328i, 335i, and AH3,
in either Base, Modern, Luxury, Sport, M-Sport lines!

Now that's real attractive...

BMWCali is getting one in M-Sport line!

stupid that they used the N55 instead of the N20. Why not make a 45mpg car if the goal is to create a more efficient vehicle that replaces the diesel. That's right, because your trying to make the "best" model the fastest AND the most efficient, when it weighs as much as an E39 and isn't what we purists appreciate. Is technology making cars worse? (Chris Harris) In the case of "sportness" yes. The range topper is also the porker

You could argue it's the same thing they did with the 335d. Rather than selling a 'compromised econobox' that a 320d might be viewed as, they set out to make the ne plus ultra of diesels (or, in this case, hybrids). To prove that you don't have to compromise, to try to make it *even better* than the gas car.

But in the end, the 335d was never gonna be something a 335i thrillseeker wanted to pay *more* money for (for less HP, even though it was a torque monster). I think the AH3 is, once again, the answer to the question nobody asked. It's not proving that a nice luxury car with decent acceleration can get killer mileage. They're trying to prove that they can make an even FASTER car that gets marginally better mileage, but the people who care about fast cars also care about handling.

Yeah, but how much hp does a 330d have? Exactly.....

This was my first thought as well. If they had used the N20 the car would still have 295hp combined and be quite quick, but have even better fuel efficiency. The engine choice is illogical to me.

If you do (which is a must), by how much will the mpgs drop?

that is the exact reason they didn't do the 328i hybrid, it would be just a little heavier than a 335i and have almost the same horsepower, it would also be 0.1-0.2 seconds slower 0-60 but cost about the same, they worried about stealing sales from the 335i, so they just made a 335i hybrid which they could sell for even more!

How great would a 328i hybrid be, 45 MPG, 0-60 in 5.5-5.6 seconds and for $45K. I am not a fan of hybrids because the people that buy them do not know how to drive (I believe they are the ones who cause horrible traffic ) but a 328 hybrid would be tempting.

I think that the AH 3 is quite impressive. People on this forum would complain about it no matter what the final product was, but with rising CAFE standards, BMW must continue to innovate. Automakers must now increase mpg numbers every year and using hybrid technology is the most likely answer, at least in the near future. Right now, BMW won't sell many of these, but I believe in future years, hybrids will become a larger part of the market share as there really is no other plausible way to reach the strict CAFE standards. What BMW has shown with the AH 3 is that performance does not need to be compromised. This car is more powerful than the 335i, while using about 50% less full. Handling is an unknown right now, and we won't know what it is like until it is produced. However, as BMW enthusiasts, we should all be happy knowing that in the future, we won't all be driving a Prius and that BMW will continue to produce high performance cars that also get great mileage.

I am surprised to see no Eco-Credit in the US. This is really pushing forward the sales of the X5d in recent months.

That stigma is about to change. I will be the fastest hybrid driver on the road in my city once I get my AH3.

That's an excellent point. If a diesel gets an eco-credit I would definitely expect a hybrid to get one as well

Want to know a secret? A fully optioned ActiveHybrid 3 is only $55/month more than a fully optioned 328i on a 30 month lease, thanks in part to the AH3's great residual.

The AH3 is $13K more ($52K vs $65K), which works out to only $4/month more per $1,000. Incredibly cheap!

No more tax credits in the US either
It will take a long time to make up for the extra cost based on gas savings alone.
You can bet if the november elections swing "left" and the Democrats get power back, there will be more tax credits like that one.

The "Eco-Credit" is cash back to the customer, its marketing money. The AH3 is brand new so they are not going to subsidize it.
