My $2,500 mistake
So I want to purchase a 328i x this Summer through European Delivery. I call my dealer in May and he gives me a very good price - more than $1,000 under ED invoice. Then we decide we want to do the ED in August and he informs me that it will have to be a 2015 car. I ask about the price difference and he tells me that the price of the car should only go up a few hundred at most.
Fast forward to today and he quotes me a price for the 2015 of more than $2,500 greater than the May price. I ask him why and he tells me that the May price was full of BMW incentives and discounts and that there are no such discounts on the 2015s as BMW is trying to unload the 2014 models. ($500 of this price is for the fact that BMW is now making us pay $500 additional for the enhanced bluetooth). Not happy about this, but don't really see any alternatives if I want to do August ED. I did ask him about not doing ED and getting a 2014 model, but they are no longer going to build me a 2014 to my specs and there are no 2014s that have been built that match my desired configuration. Dealer is a good guy, but he has been selling BMWs since the 70s, so he should have certainly prepared me for this. I guess there is not much I can do other than wait for next year or hope for some kind of incentive in July. |

i understand its a little out of his control considering you agreed on a car without knowing the price. but i wouldnt have taken it.
if you still have time to get out of it, try looking for a car similar to what you want on cars.com or something. i cant imagine you wont be able to find a very similarly equipped car sitting somewhere

Are you purchasing or leasing? If purchasing consider that a MY14 would already be a 1 year old model by the time you took delivery while the MY15 will be current for nearly a year (unless MY16 LCI is released early). Depending on when you resell car, this can help offset some of the $2500.
No one knows for sure when MY15 incentives will come but typically the first big incentives come for the winter sales drive (Nov/Dec).

Should have known there would be no incentives on the 2015's at least until this time next year. Lesson learned I guess.
I would have the dealer do a search for the car you are looking for and try to buy it if you want it that bad, otherwise it sounds like you are ready to wait until 2015's have incentives, good luck regardless of which way you go!!!! |

it's a 45-50k car
ED experience is priceless. In the end it's a mistake but as others have noted, it'll be a MY15 and all will be forgotten when you get into the car and drive over 70mph |

I am in the same boat... My current lease doesn't end for a few months and even though it was a good deal.. It wasn't due to the lease...My sales advisor (who I know for over 10 years) says that drive events will get you 1000 in savings...try those. (Ps right now you can get almost 5k in savings on 2014s if you take what's on the lot) Also, the next deals will be around November December... August is the worst month.. If you go in December you will have as much buying power as you did... I don't think you will need to wait till next year. Keep mind these dealers want market share thus many will take a loss if they have to.
If you don't care about using your sales advisor go to truecar.com. The price guaranteed. (Right now it's only showing 2014s). Or shop on the internet... That's my last resort come September. |
