Bought CPO F30 6MT...Problems begin...advice?!

I wont name dealerships quite yet!

Two weeks ago I bought a beautiful 2012 Melbourne red 328 Sedan with pretty much all the options.

6MT Sportsline with a black leather interior.

LOVE THIS CAR.

When I picked the car up, I noticed a few paint chips on a few spots, but nothing to bad. I drove the car home 75 miles, and immediately got a message that brakes need servicing.

"WTF" I said to myself. Its CPO, it should have been checked.

I complained to the selling dealer, only to get told that all services are included in the remaining warranty... a bit of a pain to have to deal with it, but I made the appointment with my local dealership thats taken care of my E60 before.

Before the appointment date, I had a couple more error messages come up.

Oil service needed.
Front camera error and malfunction
Key Fob error (engine wont start)
lane departure system errors

get to my local dealer and the first thing they tell me.
We wont cover the camera or lane departure error, AS YOU HAVE A NON BMW windshield AND the front bumper was a respray and it was done poorly. All this interferes with those two systems. Sorry!

"Damn, WTF kind of happy BS is that?" I say to myself.

My local dealer has been good to work with, and I left the car this morning with them. They'll call and let me know what BMW can do for me. They did mention that a selling dealer should have done all the services, as well as picked up on the NON BMW glass.

Question? Has anyone bought a CPO car, still in original warranty, and had it sold with NON BMW glass? Which seems to be interfering with the camera?

Called BMWNA and they've been really good to talk to.

First question was: "Do you want us to buy the car back, or fix it and get all the right parts on it?

So... what do I do? If it was in an accident and had a bad respray, I dont think I want the car.... otherwise?

What about the glass? Was the selling dealer in the wrong by selling me a car that doesnt meet BMW specs?

Depending on how this goes, I'll start calling dealerships out on the problems.

Problem... There are so few F30 6MT cars out there, that finding another will not be possible. Let alone with all the Msport options and everything else my car has.

I know you love the car but too many things going wrong too soon, smells like a lemon get rid of it asap, I'm sure all of this can be sorted out but it seems like a really bad start I would ask BMW to buy the car back

My concerns are about the respray being a result of an undocumented accident. Which makes me wonder about the selling dealership and their "inspection."

Second, the glass is a crazy big item to miss, and have to fix.

How is the buyback experience from a BMW perspective? Is BMWNA good to deal with?

The car is still under warranty, active CPO, and Carfax buyback certified.

I hope to god that I dont have to deal with this kind of crap from the start.

SIGH!!!

Personally, I'd get the buyback and try again on another car

Best of luck!

Now what if I could get them to extend the FULL 4/50 to cover the CPO range? Which would take it out to 2019 and 100K.

Im just thinking out loud here... even tho I hear that the best bet would be to dump it and get another..... regardless how hard it is to find a CPO 6MT Msport car.

I've read far to many of these CPO horror stories. I honestly believe the dealerships will certify a vehicle without even inspecting it, just because it'll command a higher price if it has "CPO" on the sticker. Besides, if the vehicle is a lemon, it doesn't cost the dealership anything extra; BMW has to pay for all the repairs.

I actually trust a Carmax extended warranty much more than a manufacturer CPO, because the inspection is performed by the same entity that is underwriting the warranty. i.e. Carmax has a financial incentive to make sure the car they warrantied isn't a lemon.

Order the car you want. If you can't afford to buy it, then lease the car you want.

How much did you get the car for? It sounds like you probably got a stellar deal that's keeping you from letting BMW buy the car back.

You already have the existing full warranty and are struggling to get it honored. Not sure why you'd want to sign up for another 4 years of that

Do the buy back, order up the exact car you want and call it a day

Exactly this. The fact you have a first year production F30 could be worrisome also. I smell an endless trail of potential problems beyond the few that have already surfaced.

You asked what option code 903 means.

it means your car was used at an exhibition of some sort. Car show, etc..

What's the point of a CPO car that clearly wasn't CPO'd? A CPO car carries an almost 2k premium over comparable models sold in the used car market. Something needs to be worked out.

If you really want the car though it may not be all bad. Had the car been in accident i can tell you a respray wouldn't do much. The bumper cover will break in even low speed accidents. Either a crack is hidden or the cover was simply scratched. Windshield needs to be replaced along with oil and brake service. Seems easier to have BMW make the car right rather than a buy back but whatever happens don't give them a penny more for that car.

Go for the buy back, spec a car you wanted and lease it. There's just too many problems on that car that you won't be able to enjoy it. By the time it was all sorted out and done, there's a new model coming out, you're out if warranty, drastic depreciation for sure. Waste of time and money.

Run. No car, as hard ss it is to find us worth it. This sounds like it is just the beginning of what will get worse for you if you keep it.

Sorry to hear about this bad experience with this bmw dealer. Sounds like a dealer everyone should steer clear of.

More and more F30 6-speeds are finally hitting the used market.

I'd just count my blessings that they offered to buy back the car without a fight, take your money back, and try your luck another time. More F30s are just starting to show up as lease returns so you're bound to find another 6MT if you're patient.

I know it may seem like the problems are fixable and it's tempting to think this is just a hiccup, but the reality is you can no longer trust this car and you will always worry if something else will go wrong.

Re spray is probably nothing. It could be just a scratch or bad road rash. Some half@ss repair by the original owner or dealer. Personally I would do a buy back under the assumption that'll really get the selling dealership in trouble. Shame on them for doing a half@ss CPO inspection but it would not surprise me if they knew about the issues and decided not to charge the original owner because he/she was 'a valued customer'.

Unless you have some sentimental attachment to this particular car, take the buy back! It's great that BMWNA is offering to do that.

Sorry that you're going through this. It's supposed to be fun buying a new car for yourself. :
