That's expensive, just order the BMW part for $75 n pay a shop to remount it. Been costing me $100 in labor each time. I've broken 3

did u consider to switch for b6 instead of b8? i have dinan springs now installed with stock shocks. its garbage ride. so upset with that cause dinan and my dealer was saying its specifically constructed for xdrive bla bla and u will not get any issue. but i have warranty on them and i will get a full refund after removing them. so im going to get a b6 with pair of dinan. i read the info that b6 is good to lower a vehicle up to 25mm with no issue absolutely and dinan make a 20mm drop. so b6 and dinan is a way to go.

I would advise against that, it the main reason I went with TC kline coil overs which come full Coilover in front with camber plates to avoid this failure.

If you're RWD, why are you not getting the BMW M Performance Suspension kit installed instead? I have zero issues with mine. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1366843 |

Honestly, I had the same suspension combo currently in my E30 and previously on my E46 M. Never had a issue like this in over 100k+ miles, it may be that the F30 top hat is just a weak point. Anyways, I am just replacing everything back with my OEM M Sport suspension since I am getting ready to trade my car in anyways.

So odd...I have the F36 with KW V1 and recently hit a monster rock on the freeway that bent the wheel and I think messed up the wheel bearing or bent something. I immediately thought of this thread when it happened, expecting my top hat to be destroyed. But its fine. Odd.

I think most of the blown tophats are the result of people mixing and matching springs/struts. Here's the problem. Aftermarket companies that manufacturer either a spring or strut (not both) test their parts out on an otherwise stock configuration. I'm confident that their products generally wouldn't result in a catastrophic failure like a blown top hat when used by itself. The problem becomes when the end-user introduces more variables into the equation. An aftermarket company can't test for every configuration out there. This is why I always say that if you're RWD and want a fixed suspension setup - the only thoroughly tested spring/strut combination is the BMW M Performance Suspension kit since it was designed and tested in unison by BMW. |

Silly question, but why is everyone so hooked on the Bilstein B6 or B8 shocks? They are non-adjustable and ride pretty harsh.
I've been a fan of Koni for every car I've owned. Similar in price to Bilsteins AND they are adjustable! |

Shattered Strut Mount
Sorry to have to revive another dead thread (I find myself doing that a lot these days). So anyway this happened last night...
and guess what? I'm also running B8 and H&R Sport although my scenario is slightly different as I had the parts in storage for 5 whole years before finally having them installed last summer (warranty concerns). With that said, it should hold no bearing on the fact that this particular combination is the direct cause of our blown strut mounts but Bilstein will likely argue that. Anyway, does anyone think we have any recourse if enough of us chime in about this problem? Has anyone suffered the same issue using other springs other than H&R? Finally, I'll obviously need to replace this part and it seems the latest part# is 31306880438 (former part# 31306863135). Can anyone confirm this will fit my 2013 F30 Msport? I'm getting conflicting information from different sites. Also have the members who've replaced the strut mount due to this problem, had to replace any of the other components i.e. gasket, bolts/nuts, spring insulator etc? TIA!

Instead of buying springs and struts that were not engineered for each other , why not just buy a coilover set and be done with it. With the costs of the HR springs and B8 shocks, another $100 or so and you can have springs and struts that were developed to work in harmony, and adjustable.
